Short Luteal Phase 9 Days - Wait HOW LONG??!!

Thanks girls - all very helpful. I'm on 150mg of B6 a day now, I'll see what happens this cycle (I'm on CD4 now).

We're getting DH's swimmers tested next week and if that comes back okay, I am going to go private - my GP did say they would refer me privately!! Nonsense but I don't mind paying to cut down a year of waiting! Shouldn't have to though.

that sweetie is a very typical reaction from most gp im 42 and before this pregnancy had 3 mc and 2 chemicals and they still didnt do anything just bloods which they said were fine ! it took me a year to keep a pregnancy. speak to another doc and ask to be refered to a fertility specialist dont take what they say to you keep shouting xx

mistycat just to add and let you know that Dr's in england don't believe in LPD. Seems odd I know when they recognise it in other parts of the world but I too had a 9 day LP, I took B6 - well the b100 complex and the first month I had 2 day increase, the second month went down to 10 and then back to 9 so I stopped taking it.

I have since been taking soy isoflavones hoping for a better quality egg and better ovulation. I have a 28 - 32 day cycle and ovulate rather late on cd20, once it was 23. I did get 2 days back on my LP with it and it was 11 last month. Before I tempt you into trying it though, research it really well and see if its right for you. Self medicating isn't without risk and sometimes I wish I wasn't messing about with things myself - I just know how frustrating it is when medics are taking so long.

I first saw FS nurse in November, she arranged HSG, SA for hubby and STI check they make you have too. We have since been waiting for consultant apt which is finally at the end of this month - so an almost 6 month wait. This is our 19th BFN cycle so hoping they will finally have some answers! We asked to see FS after 13 months TTC

xx

I also usually have a 9 day Luteal Phase. We had problems conceiving our first son for this reason. But one month I ovulated early and he popped up! :o) We are trying again & though it may take 9 months again, if not longer, at some point it'll happen. I have never miscarried. I have never heard you can miscarry if you conceive below 10 days but I'm not surprised by it. I have also heard a baby conceived during a below 10 day LP can be perfectly healthy. So it's mixed I guess. But I have never had a problem. Hope I never do.

Hi Ladies

I have been searching for LP info as last month my LP was only 8 days, and I didnt even know this wasnt good enough:nope: so going to chart again this month and see if that is normal for me (I hadnt charted before) and if its still 8/9 days then i was thinking of going to the doctors.

I am 36 and as far as the docs are aware we have been trying for 3 years so i should get some help, maybe??

This makes me feel a bit better, thank you :)

Hi MistyCat, I've just seen this post as I've been on another post for short luteal phase. I'm also 36 and been trying for a year - it took me a while to realize I had a short luteal phase and when I did take my charts to the doctor (after trying for a year because he wouldn't see us before) he did give us a referal to a fertility clinic (he wouldn't/couldn't do anything himself). However we have opted to try a vitamin/herb correction phase for a while before going to the clinic.

I would really recommend you reading some of the other luteal phase forums on this website - there are many many women in the same case and there are lots of vitamin and herb options that have proven to correct it (ie 50MG B6, 1000MG Red Rasbperry and 100MG Vitex per day corrects it in just a few months).

Most doctors don't seem to recognise Luteal Phase Defect as being a medical problem - I don't know what but unfortuantely this seems to be the case for all women. Personally I wouldn't waste your money on going private - they will say the same as they are also ''traditional'' medicine. I think you would be better spending your money on vitamins/herbs or a chinese doctor - this is just what I've leartn from reading other posts.

I hope this helps. x

Hello! I see this hasnt been active for awhile and the OP is now due :) That's so exciting!

I am just wondering...I have had a 7-9 day LP my first 3 cycles off the pill and am taking B6 but still, this cycle, 9 again!

How did this all turn out for the OP? Did you manage to increase it or did you conceive with a 9 day LP?

Thanks!

I conceived after taking soy iso for days 2-6. Seemed to give me extra couple days on LP.
Good luck Hun x

Hi

Just thought I'd share with you what it says on my FS website

"The normal practice is for GPs to refer a couple after a year of trying to conceive. Earlier referral is recommended for women who are aged 35 or above, or if a woman has any health problem or medical history which might affect their fertility such as previous pelvic surgery, pelvic infection or irregular periods. Similarly, if the man is know to have had a problem with his testicles he should be referred for a semen analysis (sperm test) without delay."

Maybe you could find out where you would be referred based on where you live and see what they say - they probably have a website with info on too

Then you can go in 'armed and dangerous':gun:

B vits (as mentioned above) can lengthen your LP and a lot of women report taking these or things like pregnacare seem to lengthen cycles and possibly LP's

Good luck x

Hi the referral really depends on where you live!! I went to see my doctor a couple of weeks ago because my LP is 6-7 days and she talked it through with me and seemed very knowledgeable.

However she said that due to funds shortage the current referral rule in our area as i am under 30 is 3 years!! (we have been trying 8 months!). She does want me to come back after a year and a half so we can see.

She did advise that yes you should relax, stop thinking about it so much etc. She also advised not to take any vitamins etc as apparently they dont work.

But i think once i get over a year i am going to try B6 anyway for a couple of cycles.

xx

Its refreshing see most of the women on this thread are now pregnant or have had their babies! So there is hope for us ladies with short LP :) x

I also conceived after taking soy iso the first month i tried it. It brought my ovulation earlier by 5 days, could have been a coincidence though! I'd been trying 12 cycles and only had a 9 day LP. This never corrected so it is possible to get preggo with a short one :)
