Should he be going longer between feeds by now?

Hi all

Toby is 4 months today. I am fascinated that so many FF babies take 4/5 feeds per day and go 4hrs between feeds. It is very rare Toby will go longer than 3hrs between feeds. Often he only manages 2.5hrs. He has 6/7 feeds per day, we don't dream-feed him, he takes 6.5ozs at the most, and often its as little as 4-5ozs.

Is this normal or should he be able to go longer now? I don't mind, I'm just asking out of curiosity / fascination really!

Does he sleep through the night? If he does I wouldn't worry. Some babies just tank themselves up during the day so they can do long stretches at night.

Is he on hungry baby milk or not?

You demand feed right? Are you absolutely 100% sure that you are not feeding him when is crying due to tiredness instead of hunger? Just saying it because I used to do that when I demand fed, and tbh OH still does :)

Hi Claire, he USED to sleep through the night, until about 4-weeks ago when he started waking. Its on and off, sometimes he won't wake and he'll sleep through, sometimes he'll wake twice and be really really unsettled!
He had hungry baby milk for 5-days but it didn't change his waking at night so the HV recommended he just goes back to his normal milk. He was settling better after a feed but his night patterns are so up and down its so hard to know if thats down to the HBM.
I do demand feed yup, but because he seems to be less interested in his milk generally, I try not to let him go more than 3hrs without having a feed, he's generally just starting to cry / grizzle for one anyway.
I am 99% positive that I don't feed him when he's actually tired not hungry, we've got into a little routine now where he has a feed, then an hour after it, he'll be rubbing his eyes, ready for a nap, then he has about 45-mins to 1hr nap before waking. Another hour ish playtime and then he feeds and it starts again. That's mostly what happens anyway!
He's just so unpredictable with his feeds, sometimes he struggles to go 2.5hrs, sometimes he'll take 4ozs and I can't get a thing down him, sometimes he'll take 7ozs! Lately he's really messing around with his feeds and kicking me and pushing the teat away. I tried, what I think was, a faster flow teat today but it made no difference so I don't think its that.
I'm happy still taking his lead but not sure he's 100% happy with his feeds or not.
Thanks, Julie xxx
P.S. So sorry to ramble xxx
