Should I get a double pushchair?

My ds1 will be just over 2 years old when ds2 arrives. Looking at double pushchairs and they are just so expensive for what I want - I want the type where you can attach the car seat and the have a forward facing seat for the older child. Even second hand, people are selling some at £500+

My oh doesn't think it's worth getting one and we can either just have ds1 walking or use the sling for baby. We don't use the pushchair for ds1 that much but it's still good to have if we ever go to town or for walks. I don't know what he will be like at 2, that's still pretty young to have them walking especially if he just wants to sit down when he's tired. I know you can get those seat adapters but I just think they look naff - have you found it worth the money getting a double?

There is always the option of a buggy board for you older child to stand on too. I found mine almost always walked from being 24/26 months old anyway. I only took the pram out with me as we went out for massively long walks every day and they would sit in the pram to eat when we stopped for lunch if we couldn't find a bench and to put shopping bags on.

I think it depends on each child. DD is 29 months and still very heavily relies on her pushchair and gets easily tired. If we don't have it with us she refuses to keep walking. It was also just a godsend when we were on holiday and she needed to nap. I'm debating on getting a double pushchair for the next even though DD with be nearly 3. I'm going to assess again in September to see what is happening with naps and need for pushchair xx

My wee DS is now 25 months and pretty much doesn't use his pram, but I do use a trike on long walks and a backpack that links to my wrist. But DD will be in a sling for long walks but you could use a buggy board (think one called the easy rider has a seat on it). It does totally depend on the child, some take every time.

Hi there. I had the same dilemma- my little girl will be almost 3 and walks most of the time but every now and then on longer walks she wants carried or her buggy. I decided to opt for a tandem which can convert to a single buggy once my older child definitely doesn't need a pram. I got a b-dual (b-ready in america) new but fairly cheap as the buggy is being discontinued. Asda had them for £140 plus £54 for the second seat. I managed to pick up a hard carry cot for it for only £35 new. It has quite a few different configurations but I plan to have the baby on top in the carrycot with my toddler underneath should she need to have a rest. I think if we didn't walk far then I wouldn't have bothered with a double pram but we tend to walk quite a lot.

It depends on your DS. My son refused to walk anywhere outside until 3 years old. His choice, which was fine, but annoying. So if DD is like him, no. I am going to get a double but not one with a car seat but a carrycot just due to it being safer than a car seat.

defiantly worth getting, my son is 2, will be 3 in February and still prefers the pram, he loves to walk but also likes being in the pram.
I spent £116 on my double but I already had a car seat for the double pram I got. I have the graco tandem. it's bulky but it cheap and has a massive basket, it's perfect for what I need other then it being bulky. would like a new double as had the pram over a year now but hubby has said no we don't need one.

I have exactly the same issue. We've had the Bugaboo Bee for my DS who will be 3 in a few months and still likes to chill out in it when we're out. Now that #2 is on his way we've been looking at tandems/doubles/sit-and-stands. I've found one called the Joovy Caboose which has a bench seat type thing at the back and also the option to stand up on a board and hold on to handles. It's not insanely expensive so I think we might give it a go.

We have a phil & ted navigator and will be getting a double kit for it as DS will be 20 months when #2 arrives and ww walk alot as we have 2 dogs and he tends to nap etc in his buggy on walk and I do not think he will manage to go as far so a second seat is a must for us - you can pick them up fairly cheap

It depends on how far you need to walk. Will you need your son to walk places when say he might be tired or poorly? Or do you have the option of using a car if needs be?

All children are different, but there's no way I could have managed without a pushchair for my daughter when she was 2. She still uses it now at nearly 3 and a half. We have dogs though, so have to walk them quite far every day. Plus, we walk most other places too.

I also felt like I needed her to be in her pushchair when we went shopping in town. She was a nightmare walking - grabbing things off shelves, running off, wouldn't walk on reins. I don't think I would have even attempted to take her to town without having a pushchair. She did get a lot better in town when she got to about 3.

We bought a 2nd hand phil and teds navigator which we use as a single, but could convert into a double if needed.

My son will be 23 months when this baby is born and we are definitely going to invest in a double. He still naps in the day and gets very tired. Also I think pushing him out and making him walk when he sees a new baby in the pushchair would be really upsetting for him x

There is 2 years between my two youngest and i got a double stroller thinking i would use it a lot but the older one would refuse to sit in it and we only used it once!!!

Definitely depends on the child. My youngest walks everywhere, we only bring a pushchair if we're out for the day and he needs a sleep in it. My eldest used the pushchair for a lot longer.

This time round I plan to wear baby and not use a pushchair at all.

Depends on the child, my son is 2.5, he walks everywhere, has refused a pushchair since 16 months. He can easily do a two hour walk with playing in the play parks so this baby I'll just carry in a sling and hold ds hand.

Definitely depends on the child. My dd is 15 months older than my dn and as we help each other out with childcare we've tried both a double and a buggy board. Doubles I found very hard to manoeuvre, bulky and just downright heavy. My dd managed great on a buggy board from about 2.5 so maybe a sling for baby on longer journeys might work. If you do buy a double I'd stick to second hand as you might not want it very long. The joovy caboose someone else mentioned looks fab, was too expensive for our needs but might be great for you.

We'll prob get a Britax B-Ready or Uppababy Vista with our first so we can convert for two in a few years but if you have a stroller that accommodates 1 you can get this cool little attachment as the pp's were saying instead of getting a new system.
