Sick after taking bottle feed

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if I'm repeating. I find that Tiffs gets sick if she has wind. I tend to wind her half way through her bottle and take it out if she gulps, but sometimes she doesn't burp and so when I give her the rest she'll throw all of that up! I've started giving her infacol before every feed and tbh I'm not really sure whether it's working or not, but that's always an option! You do need to give it before every single feed though and it takes a few days to work.

I know it's frustrating at times, but try not and let it stress you out. Sometimes I can wind Tiffany for half an hour or more and she doesn't burp! I've only just put her bottles up to 4oz and she seems to be getting sick a lot more now. You could maybe try putting him on 3oz rather than 4 and see if this makes a difference? Tiffany will comfort feed if the bottle is there and this makes her get sick as well, also it can be hard to distinguish whether she's crying because of hunger or wind so that's something to keep in mind if you find your constantly feeding.

Anyway! To end the essay! If you're worried about getting sick on yourself, use a couple of muslins to put over your clothes. If you wind on your shoulder, put his bib over his arms and then you shouldn't need to change his clothes if he is sick. Hopefully some of this will be helpful. Good luck! x

It is quite a lot and it is not only once he does it, it is usually a few times he does it a little while after a feed.

Thanks for the link have had a read...stil lnot sure, will perservere though with different things suggested on here over the weekend and see what happens I reckon

could be overeating - as that is what paeditrician told us to watch out for. we were advised to give her 3-4 oz every 3 hours at 4 months... we didnt as she wanted more but as said she is getting better. maybe try after breast fed only giving him 2oz, if you have to feed an hour or two later it doesnt matter as long as he isnt being sick. try it and see

Liam is 1 month old, he is not in pain when being sick as he does not cry and most of the time you don't know it is coming until he brings it up and we get a nice wet patch or our top.

He can even bring milk up up to an hour or so after feeding, or even over night as at times in the morning he has a sickness stain at the side of his mouth and his moses basket sheet is stained.

I also wonder thinking about it if it is anything to do with him being breast fed and bottle fed, he dosen't get a lot from the breast as OH has to use nipple shields as he won't latch, then he takes around 4 fl oz of bottle, I wonder if it is anything to do with the mix of breast & bottle or taking too much with both ?

I suppose also he dosen't wind very well either as you can hear it on his chest but he does not do big burps and sometimes don't seem to have wind, again I wonder if some sort of gripe water before feed would help ?, he is either sitting in our arms or lying depeding if he is going off to sleep

tbh that just sounds like the normal type of sickness that babies do probably just brought on by trapped burps etc. I swore by the boots own brand gripe water and the dr browns bottles to help.
Mosy reflux cases are when there is acid pain with the sickness.
When Tabs was sick it was more like the exorcist type of sick and then the pain, or sometimes the sick would only come up to her throat or mouth due to the valve. Either way its pretty uncomfortable for them.
I would just try to rule out wind issues and normal sick before heading down the reflux route though or if the sickness is severe.

Oh and bf and bottle is fine. Support your oh on this if this is what she wants to do.It is a very very hard decision to stop breast and can make hormonal women worse if pressured on what is best etc.
I did this and tried to exclusively bf but couldnt get the supply up or it seemed i couldnt so happily did this for 3 months when she totally refused breast then just expressed for her meds until 6 months old.

Have you tried a lactose free or soy formula? Both my daughters had signs of reflux and was vomitting on and off. S26 do a lactose free formula, only a little more expensive than normal but well worth the try. It worked with both of my daughters and i kept them both on lactose free diets and never had reflux or wind problems again.

As you may remember Liam has problems keeping his milk down, after speaking to doc & hv again they suggested using a special 'staydown milk'

We bought SMA Staydown Milk (mauve lid) yesterday and tried it for the first time last night.

Started feeding at 12am Liam did not go to sleep until 2.40am and in between he was bawling his eyes out, really wheazy and agitated, and he was winded regular as well.

We gave him his usual 5fl oz but he wanted more so we done another 2floz he took all that as well and then wanted more, so we done another 2 and he took a bit before giving up and finally going to sleep, he was sick once but it was not as much as usual.

I think that has to be the worst night we've had with him.

So for his next feed we decided maybe there was something that didn't agree with him so we went back to SMA Gold he woke at 6.30 took 3fl oz - rested - sick - 2 fl oz - was asleep by 7.50.

I have told the OH to try the stay down again today on his next feed in case it is a one off, hopefully it is, any experience of this anyone ?

This baby lark is so much fun :>)

Went to docs friday and we have now been referred to the peadiatrician at the hospital as the doc didn't have a clue.

Not sure how long the appointment will take, but at least we may finally get an answer though.

Goodluck with it.
You could always try the cow and gate version. Its called comfort first but you will need to get faster flowing teats for it as it is much thicker but it is gentle on their tummy.

Also when you say he wanted more on that night feed etc are you sure its not just him suckling to get to sleep? and does he use a dummy?
