I am trying to do combination feeding. I've been havin a few problems with breast feeding and LO isn't getting enough of my milk resulting in her losing a couple of ounces this week. When i feed LO formula she seems to sleep a really really long time. Is this normal? Has anyone else noticed this?

I don't know much about formula feeding or anything else for that matter since I'm a new mum. I've been giving her 3oz. She is 4 weeks old tomorrow but only weighs 6lbs 11oz. Is that the right amount for her. Normally I feed her on the breast then give her the 3oz. Tonight I'm just going to give her 4oz before we go to bed. How do you know how much to give them? Will they stop eating if they aren't hungry? Can you over feed a baby?

Hello,

My HV and Midwife have all said to just feed them on demand, whatever they want and that you can't overfeed them. My LO will either spit it out, or refuse to have it in his mouth if he doesn't want it. I think they are quite clued up to whether their tummies are full! I tried BF but didn't get on with it. The only issue I have found is sometimes he likes to snack and just have 1oz here and there which can get a bit annoying, having to make up the bottles just for that, but as you are BF, I guess that won't be an issue!

I'm not sure you can over feed them, Holly spits the bottle out and clamps her mouth shut when she has had enough!!

I combo feed with EBM and FF. For that weight and age it sounds about the same as what my LO would have at the same age (slighty heavier). I dont think i can over feed as she stops when she has had enough and spits out the teat.
