My LO is 23 weeks and I just changed last week ( bit selfish really, sma red was on good offer ) I asked my HV and she said they are basically the same thing. No need to change, but wont do any any harm if you do. I dont think my LO even noticed a difference, has been drinking as well as always!
I think you can switch straight over. There are pretty much the same thing, just with more iron I think. I havnt switched though he still has stage 1, so don't take my word for it.
I found my LO woke up sooo much more in the night on sma red we switched back to gold and stuck with it until cows milk lol. But when we did make the switch it was straight over onto it.
We changed over gradually from first milk to follow-on milk. Just added -1 scoop first milk and +1 scoop follow on milk to feeds and upped the ratio of follow-on to first milk by 1 each day until the bottles where 100% follow-on. xxx
We switched over to FOM (different brand, tho), and....switched straight back! Just make sure you (and LO) are happy with the new milk (only buy one carton), just in case!
I wouldn't bother - I know it's cheaper but there's no need for the upset. Earl's tummy was so upset by anything other than 1st milk. He could tolerate the toddler milk when he turned 1, and we only bought the cartons with the straws of that as the powder really didn't agree with him. Went onto cows milk by 14 months.
