Hi,

My little one has had a silent reflux since about 6 weeks old, eventually after weeks of an upset little man we were prescribed infant gaviscon which worked for a little while but then the reflux seemed to come back, we were advised to try sma staydown which worked great for my LO's reflux, but it made him constipated :/ we were then prescribed movicol which I was a bit apprehensive about using as he's so young but it seemed to do the trick.

However he's now 19 weeks old and has been having random screaming fits for about a month and we've not really known what it is.. I've started to notice it's when he's doing a poo or after a feed with movicol in, I'm tempted to switch milks and stop using the movicol but worried the reflux will come back.. So I'm not sure what to do :(

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this with their LO?

My LO is on stay down and gaviscon. I noticed that he was trying to poo but was struggling, wen we first swapped. So my mum took his nappy off (wen you cud tell he was straining) and held him over his nappy (like a squatting position) and he was able to go.

I contuied this and he poos every time with my help. He does seem to have a pattern of having one after his second bottle (no idea why) but it is obvious when he wants one. Now I hold him over the toilet lol.

Granted I get weird looks when im out and have to take my 4 month old the toilet haha, but it works so I do it.
Maybe worth having a go?
I told my hv and she said its due to the position I hold him in because his legs are are agaisnt his body like which is a more natural sitting position to help gravity ect.

Thanks for the advice :) but with the movicol my LO has no problems going to the toilet I just don't like giving it to him because I'm almost certain it gives him a tummy ache :( I'm thinking of taking him off the reflux milk and stop giving movicol and hoping the reflux has run it's course I hate seeing him upset :(

My dd always managed to go but it wasn't as soft as it should of been but once we started to wean the combination of food and staydown seemed to make it worse and she really struggled I give her a couple of ounce of prune juice mixed with same amount of water a day and that works!

You could try taking your lo off both, his reflux may of greatly improved. Both my younger 2 had it and there was loads of improvement when they spent more time awake and upright and even more improvement when they could sit alone. Or you could try stopping the movicol and try alternatives? Xxx
