Snowsuits allowed or not?

Come on girls. It was obvious what I was saying. No need to make sarky comments. There is different advice for loads of things in different countries. All I was saying was that what I read was an American article, but in the UK or other countries guidelines might be different.

Bloody hell it wasn't that stupid a comment :growlmad:

Lol i agree with you tbh. At the end of the day Yanks might be much more consious of babies than the UK or India. Does it really matter for gods sake, she was making a valid point babies dont change but peoples views do where ever you go.

And mine are going to be born in nov. so they might be put in a snow suit, as im verry hot blooded and i never use my car heating.

As far as Im concerned snow suits are fine. I live in Finland where it can be -30oc in the winter. Parents have no choice but to put babies in snowsuits and there was has never been one reported incident leading to snowsuits being labeled not safe for babies in car seats.

They say not to have your baby in a snowsuit in his/her carseat because if in an accident the suit compresses due to the padding and baby isn't as snuggly secured into the seat as you may have thought. They are also very insulated so baby could overheat. It's one of those things where you just have to use your common sense.

What does the snowsuit look like? :D

Thats what i was going to say the part about compressing...it's the same for thick padded jackets.
But tbh I had my Lo in a nice thick jacket during winter last year in the car... just wasn't practical to have him in a coat, then take it off to get back in the car and things like that. PLus i wear my coat in the car when its cold....brrr

we never put the heating on that high in my car as i have heat intolerance so can get really aggitated if im too hot so baby will be wearing a snowsuit when it is cold. i think it helps when they are moved from car to pushchair as the pushchair can be cold and as they are all snug all ready they shouldnt get disturbed by it too much as the snowsuit protects them from the cold. but with blankets they will feel how cold the pram is on there back and head. also my friend had her baby last year and we aways had a snowsuit on her + blanket when we went out in the car as it was so cold esp as the car takes time to warm up

I never put my son in a snow suit when he was travelling in the car. I only ever used it when we were out for walks in the winter.

Tbh I don't think its necessary for a car journey unless the heating isn't working in your car. Just covering baby with a blanket would be suitable. But that's just my opinion!

I have a couple of snowsuits for LO, one which is only really slightly thicker than a sleepsuit and not padded, that one we will use in the car and I have another big thick one which although is 0-3 months looks more like 12 months due to the padding lol! That one will be used when out in the pram in the coldest months.

With those unsure about a UK/USA difference - the child seats of the two countries are designed differently due to differing child safety laws.

Its true anna things are different in other countries so i understood ya comment hun, as with my 1st i was 7 mths pregnant and was over america staying with aunty and she was sayin if u go into labour here huni we do things different etc etc like coming home and what they wear. My 2 hav been both born in the summer and ive always wrapped them up as mw's said that babys dont feel the warmth we feel specially first timne outside!!

My lil tinkerbell will be coming home in a all in one coat , i think each to our own choices everyone does everything different and english winter can be nasty so im wrappin my lil one up as newborns in winter are prone to catching colds, etc when home xx

I was going to buy a snowsuit for baby to come home in but decided against it. I don't want baby to get annoyed by messing around with putting it in this big puff snowsuit. I bought what's called a baby hooddie. It's so much easier to put baby into car seat and get ready to go. It's also very warm for baby and can be undone in the car if baby gets too hot. Also... it would last baby a lot longer as they grow than a snowsuit.... saving you a bit of money.

Here's the link if you are interested in seeing this. It's well worth the money!!

If you are interested in buying one of these let me know because I have a special discount code that can give you free postage!!!

I'm in Canada (can be kinda cold in the winter ;)) and I'll be using a cuddle bag for the carseat. Completely keeps baby warm, but can be unzipped without even touching the car seat straps. If I get a snowsuit, it will just be for outside going for a walk.

My baby will be born either end of september/october so I will probbly just put a blanket and maybe a couple receiving blankets over her in the car seat. I will also be getting a peek-a-boo seat cover...probbly not to bring her home in but I havent quite decided! Didnt really think about it to be honest! Haha guess I better figure that out!!!

Our Son will be coming home in a cosy snowsuit. Will be in the car for 15 minutes tops anyway.

I had 2 snowsuits for my son, born end of November. I used one once when I took him out during a sporting event. I never used the other one at all. they are terribly cute, but that was about it. All the advice around here (USA) is that it's unnecessary and dangerous to put a baby in a car seat wearing a suit. The suit can hamper the car seat's ability to properly restrain the baby. I would put my son in his car seat wearing only his inside outfit, then pack a couple of blankets on him and a carseat cover. This was for travel purposes where he was only outside from the building to the car and vice versa.

If you're big on going outside in winter maybe you'll get more use out of a snowsuit.

I took a lovely one to bring home dd in and she was totally swamped in it, bless her she was in there somewhere! I gave up trying to put her in it as it was obvious she had lots of growing to do even though it was a first size.
This time i have bought a wrap blanket that goes into the car seat, one of the 'toys r us' animal ones, think they are called all weather wraps, hope whatever size baby is it will work because you wrap baby up in it.
Underneath will just be a grow and a vest depending on the weather, if its nice then just a grow.

My little boy lived in snowsuits last winter, but i'd say it'll be a bit warm by the time you have yours wont it as we're about the same time, or do you mean when they are in the pram, cos it would be ok then if its not to hot..............but hell what do i know-i'm no expert!x

No, not in carseats!
