When I fell pregnant I had a job that I loved, then when I was on maternity leave I was made homeless and was rehomed by the local authority in the next town. As I don't drive this meant I had to give my job up because otherwise it would of been about 5-6 hours travel a day with a small baby on 8 buses.

I handed in my notice in November and started applying for jobs after Christmas. It's been 5 months now and I've had 1 interview of which I was unsuccessful and have been offered a few agency jobs but these were temporary on a weekly basis and from past experience I know that agencies tend to drop people quite often.

Now it's getting to the point where I am desperate for a job, we are falling behind on our bills and slowly getting into debt. I am applying for everything and anything and still getting no where. I even rang up for a cleaning job and got turned down because I don't have experience. Apparently having my own house doesn't count!

A bit of a pointless thread really, I'm just so bloody fed up! :(

I know it's frustrating but something will turn up. I would also take the agency jobs as they come to keep your head above water and keep your Cv relevant.

It's pointless me taking agency jobs because they are only temporary on a weekly basis so I could sort childcare out and then could be dropped by an agency. If I didn't have LO I'd do agency work no problem but it's just not convenient to do them the way things are at the moment.

I know how you feel. When I left uni I was unemployed for 6 months until something finally popped up. I applied to everything, even stuff I knew I wouldn't get because I was under qualified or didn't have the right skills etc. I had NO responses! Finally my mum managed to get me an interview at a local care home and I got a job there.

It's so frustrating because it really disheartens you when you get no response, or you don't get the job when you've had an interview. Is there anything you can do to spice up your CV a bit?

Something will come along eventually, just keep at it. :)

Does your SO work?

Are you crafty? Maybe find something you're good at and try and open a shop on a site like Etsy?

I hope things start looking up for you soon.

I know how it feels, though. I have no college degree and would only be able to get a min wage job...and even then I have a hard time getting called back because I have a criminal record :(

I know how you feel, kinda. I just started a new temp job on the 1st, should be for 3 months hopefully. I was struggling to find a perm position, I did find one but with travel it was going to work out I earnt less than I paid out in childcare :(.

I am not sure of the job market where you are. Bup here though it is quite common to be a temp and then get made perm after the 3 months - they use it to extend your probationary period to 6 months! Having a track record temping as well should help the agency find you a perm position, or even another agency as you will show you are keen and reliable.

Unfortunately childcare makes temping harder :(

I honestly wouldn't mind doing temporary work if it was for 3 months but for a couple of weeks at a time it really isn't worth doing. I applied for quite a lot last week so fingers crossed :)
