So hot and humid, can I give 5 week old water in bottle?

Water isn't necessary at that age and too much can be harmful. I would stick with nursing more frequently to ensure s/he stays hydrated.

No, studies have shown that even in hot temps babies don't need water. In fact, water fills them up and they eat less of the good stuff.

Yep, agree with the others. Your babe doesn't need water hun, your milk is tailor made so it's just right x

I've read not to give baby anything but breastmilk until 4 to 6 months of age.

In the heat you will produce more fore milk, which is watery and thirst quenching, to hydrate LO, so water isn't necessary. As others said, it will fill LO up and they won't recognise when they are hungry.

Babies' proportions are so much smaller than ours that giving them a small amount of water can very, very quickly flush their electrolytes and give them "water intoxication".

as a pp said..........your breastmilk will be more watery in the hot weather without you doing anything. Breastmilk is amazing in that it is the perfect first food. It changes with Lo and with the weather as well.

breast milk is something like 80 or 90% water anyway from what ive read! My LO will definitely 'snack' more now that its warm, especially if it gets hot in the house or were outside. It truly seems like its due to him being hot/thirsty, not hungry. And my LC did say that i'll notice a change in how watery the milk is when its hotter out. Its amazing how our bodies work!
