So, I finally bit the bullet & went to the doctor about my period which has been MIA since January a couple of weeks ago. After taking many vials of my blood, he sent me on my way & told me to come back in a couple of weeks for an internal & the results.

Which was today. This time with a lady doctor. Because the male doctor said, in his words, "I don't usually deal with pretty ladies, I usually see old balding men with prostate problems. If you want to see me, that's fine, but a female doctor'll have more experience of these things". After looking at my results, she explained that my LH levels are raised & this indicates PCOS. I'll be having an ultrasound to look at my ovaries to confirm the diagnosis.

Can anyone who's been through this give me some indication of what to expect from here? Thank you.

Dani

I am booked for a unltrasound scan on friday, not suppose to hurt tho, but please dont think u have pcos until its confirmed.. only my levels were high which suspects pcos but i have no symtons wot so ever, long periods is the only thing, (which could be caused by stopping bc in sept) however i still have periods between cd35 to cd60!! Also they said the same thing to my sis who didnt have pcos but didnt have a af for a yr again due to bc!!

They did all the scans etc and all ok, she then got her af like normal and 6 months ltr got pregnant!! Please wait until a specialist in that department confirm pcos

xxxx

Agreed -- there could be a number of reasons your period has been 'missing'. Your body may be slowly building up enough LH to trigger ovulation. You may have just ovulated shortly after your test. I don't know! Either does your GP. =) A scan and repeated tests are the only way to provide more information.

I have stopped menstruating for a long period of time (6-12 months) several times in my life. Sometimes stress and other chemicals build up in our body, which has a big effect on our cycles and may take some time to recover from.

it depends on ur dr and local pct. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years back but my dr can't refer me until i have had the cd1 and 2 bloods done, even though they no i don't ovualte regularly and within this "normal" time frame.
Annoyed about this is an understatement, and my mum just thinks i should go private

what have your drs said they will do next after the ultrasound, or do they want to do that just to confirm their thoughts? I was told during the ultrasound they could see the cysts, but the dr's didn't do anything about it and told me to go away until i wanted children
that time has come and they are still hindering me

good luck x

they will be able to tell more from the actual ultrasound. that is actually how they found that i had pcos. after that i had to go through a month of testing before i could even meet the FS. if you have any questions about anything just let me know. :)

My doctors too thought I had PCOS after my period went on a 3 month hiatus. I had an ultrasound which showed many small follicular cysts on my ovaries, I also had elevated levels of male hormone after several blood tests. I was seeing an endocrinologist until I found out I was pregnant a little while ago.

Don't lose hope, I had just been diagnosed and less than a month later we find out we're pregnant!
