as some of you probably know I had emergency surgery to remove my appendix about a month ago now. I was given until June 5th off work (my birthday) to recover. My boss was really wanting me back on Monday which I said would be fine as I was feeling pretty good. She did want me to get a note from my doctor just clearing me to come back. So I just came from my check up and my doctor asked me if I had been having any cramping which I said yes.. It's been like painful period cramps but no real pattern. Just seems to come and go through out the day. He said the risks of pre term labour after surgery are much higher and he's not comfortable sending me back to work, since my job is very physically demanding. As nice as it is to get all this time off.. My bank account isn't going to like it :( hubby is our main source of income but it's still going to make things harder. I can only collect 50% of my wage while on sick/injury leave and now I'm feeling a bit stressed as we just bought a brand new truck, not expecting this to happen.

Sorry for the rant I just needed to get it off my chest.. Just when things were going smoothly now I'm all worried again about money and of course that baby needs to stay in there as long as possible!

What a stressful time for you and it isn't good to have money worries as well as worrying about your health and that of baby.

The most important thing is to look after your health. I am in a similar situation (but fortunately I can work from home so I'm on full pay) due to surgery to stitch my cervix (I'm 19+5). I have found that staying home saves me loads of money, including transport (ridiculously expensive as I'm in London), lunches, coffees etc. On the finance side I would say just try to save wherever you can - it won't be 50% cheaper but you can definitely 'cut the suit to fit the cloth' especially when you are at home. Another thing I've found is that I don't spend money on impulse buys at lunchtime (cute maternity clothes, 'bargains' etc) as I work next to a huge lovely shopping centre!

If you have a very physical job you may have found that you would have to leave work earlier in pregnancy anyway?

I have a saying, which is that money comes and goes but that you can't get time back.

Good luck and all the best
Elodie
