Olivia has been behaving oddly over the last few days....

She's been crying alot more recently, at fairly random times and sounds in pain - for a baby that's not much of a crier, I guessing there is something going on. So, she's been experiencing the following:

Dribbling loads (literally drool dripping off her chin at times) and chewing her hands. I thought this could be the start of teething or at least teeth moving around, but the health visitor thinks this is unlikely and said this is normal developmental stuff.

A little off her food - so when I put her to the breast she yells, starts crying and it's bit of a challenge getting her on (however, she's feeding perfectly throughout the night).

Olivia does suffer with reflux, but she's not doing the normal back arching, so I don't think it's this.

She is extremely windy atm (passing wind all the time!) and I think this is causing her some discomfort.

Aside from all this, she is happy; smiling and playing, doesn't have a temperature. Any thoughts??? I just can't figure out what the crying is about

didnt want to read and run but i would have thought teething too with the dribbling etc. i know my niece had really bad wind when she was teething, more so than normal

I don't know if she's still too young but could it be teething pains. When my LO has teething pains she cries for no reason, has more dirty nappys and is off her food. Just a thought :hugs:

I thought she would have been too young, especially as she's a preemie too. I would have assumed teething would have been delayed. Although looking at her now (after a massive crying fit) her little chin is covered in drool, with saliva bubbling at the mouth!

I've just tried feeding her and again, she cried, got all red in the face, stretched her entire body out and passed wind very loudly.

Maybe theres a few things going on, i just don't know. We're seeing the HV tomorrow, so shall see what she says. Babies are little mysteries at times :)

I'd say teething too. The movement in their gums can go on for months before any teeth actually appear. x

I'm also going to weigh-in on teething. It hurts for them to nurse because the sucking creates pressure.

oorr she may have a cold coming - I thought Sam was realy bad with teething on Satuday but came out all snotty yesterday and today Fynn has it too. Sam was doing all the above too xx

Thank you - that's interesting. Both OH and I have had colds over the last couple of weeks and she has been waking up snotty for the last few morning, but nothing really comes of it....

I would say welcome to the start of teething, there is no such thing as too young to teeth.
Brian started his at 8 weeks (still no teeth yet) and both me and my brother where born with teeth.

Try some ashton and parsons powder, they dont do much for pain but with alot of babies they are brilliant for settling and calming the stomach and easing restlessness.
If the pain is obviously bothering her try a little calpol about 20 mins before feeding as the rubbing and sucking motion can somtimes rub the gums sore so this will settle her enough to feed comfetably.

Stomach ache, runny nappies and extra wind are very common with teething, also a slight temperature is common and because of the raise in temp the body thinks its fighting off a infection so can often show signs of looking like a cold is starting.
