I had my SHG, the one with the saline shoved up your cervix to see if your tubes fill up or if they're clogged, March 21/12. It was clear, everything was good.

I'm on cycle monitoring. Had u/s on Sat and Sun (I was triggered on Sun). Then back in for u/s on Wed to confirm o (I did). Technician thought she saw hydrosalpix in both tubes on the u/s on Wed. They've never seen it before in the 7 months I've been going there. RE says she doesn't think it's anything bc the u/s was grainy. She wants me to take anther SHG because the last one I've had was a year ago. I'm freaking out bc it was the most painful thing ever in my life. I was crying on the table - and I had already taken advil and tylenol before the appt.

Have you ever heard of going for SHG like you do Pap smears, once a year??

Lily - I am so sorry you have to go through that again. Mine was definitely more painful and uncomfortable than my open myo where I got 20 staples. I have heard of some women having to repeat after surgeries or procedures. I am sure they just want to be on the safe side and make sure everything is okay. Maybe you could ask them to prescribe you one Valium or Xanax to take before, it might help a little?

I'm not willing to risk my mental state for a 'just to be safe response'. I just about ready to run away and never be seen again. that's honestly how much the SHG scares me.

I can so relate Lily omg. I had to go for a second one before starting IVF. I was a nervous wreck about it bc the first one killlled. I mentioned it to my doc and so she said they wouldn't check the tubes, just the uterus. Then on the day of, the nurse performing it could see I was super nervous so I told her the last one wasn't pleasant. They made an attempt to put the catheter in and they couldn't so they switched to a smaller one without the balloon. I didn't realize what was going on and I was just lying there freaking out waiting for it to start, then she goes - done! I was like - is that supposed to be a joke? Not funny. I thought they were trying to trick me or something lol! Anyway what made all the difference was the smaller catheter. It was seriously like nothing this time around. So if you do it again, maybe see if they'll use a smaller catheter.

thank you so much for your feedback, PinkPeony!!!
Sadly, it'd be the tubes they'd wanna check out. My RE is by no means gentle, though she seems pleasant. I have a f/u w her in Sept so we'll see what she says... :(

Lily I'm so sorry that you have to go through an HSG again. That is probably the most painful experience I've ever had. I did an HSG in Feb'12 when I was diagnosed with bilaterally blocked tubes. However lap helped unblock it. But now after 3 perfectly timed iuis I'm yet to conceive. So I was advised to go for another HSG. But as far as my knowledge goes, there's no way to diagnose the condition of tubes through an u/s. If your doctor is assuming hydrosalphinx basing on an u/s that is definitely not correct diagnosis. You can always talk this out with your doctor. Good luck.

oh, Anne, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have a f/u w the RE in early Sept. We're going to talk about next steps since clomid failed and my two cycles of letrozole is only maturing one follie. It's the soonest appt I could get. I don't want the SHG and since you're saying blocked tubes can't be diagnosed via u/s, I'm feeling SO relieved. I'm going to ask her to show me and explain the SHG results I had done last year.

Lily Good luck with your appointment hun.
