Isn't yelling at them, scaring them into submission?

Well, he was out of arm's reach...it was that, or he would be hit, and probably dead. But, if I could reach him, I wouldn't have yelled. And it was just his name...I yelled it so he could hear. It was the tone more than anything...and I think he understood the fear in my eyes...which is teaching him that what he is doing is fearful and scary. Smacking teaches that *I* am fearful and scary.
