Sparkler Mums and Babies Thread!

Hello Ladies,

It's great to find you all here and thanks for posting a link in the baby club section - I would never have found you otherwise

It's great to hear that everyone is getting on so well and that all of your babies are happy and healthy.

Elliott was 3 weeks old on Saturday and he really is the love of mine and my OH's life. I feel blessed to have such a lovely little boy.

I am breastfeeding Elliott and so glad that I perservered with it as I had considered giving up in the beginning as it isn't easy at first (having flashback now of toe curling pain and engorged bbs!!). However, Elliott is feeding beautifully now and we are getting on amazingly.

He doesn't tend to cry unless it is for a reason which is nice as I like to think of him as a content baby. He has a dummy sometimes during the day but we certainly do not use it as a gob stopper (which I hate to see). I really beat myself up for allowing him to have a dummy as some people hate them but now I see it as his guilty pleasure. He is a "sucky" baby and it just helps to soothe him at certain times of the day. The MW and Health Visitor couldn't believe how well he took to it and it has not interfered with our breastfeeding at all.

The Health Visitor has suggested that I introduce a bottle to him at 4 weeks old so that I can express and my OH can feed Elliott as well so I am going to try this in the next week and will let you know how I get on. Hopefully he will take a bottle as well as he takes the dummy and it won't cause nipple confusion.

Elliott (TOUCH WOOD) sleeps well at night. When we first came home from hospital he slept right through (10pm to 7am) on the first two nights which worried me horrendously as I didn't want him to go hungry. His pattern now is if we are in bed by 10pm he will feed at 1/2am and then again at 4/5am and then sleep until around 8am which I am happy with. He generally feeds every 3-4 hours during the day as well only for about 10-15 mins max and then cluster feeds in the evening.

I am really looking forward to going to some of the clubs and groups in our local area to meet new Mums as well.

Next week we are hoping to go on a short family holiday to Snowdonia. We are really looking forward to it.

Take care everyone and I look forward to hearing all about your new babys.xxxx

P.S....oooohhhh I forgot to add that Elliott was weighed today and is now 8lb 15oz!! He also had his top to toe check and everything seems fine :)

hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo all

Hi folks, I'm glad I found you. This is a fantastic idea - thanks Rebaby. Congratulations to everyone on their November arrivals - haven't we all done well!!!

Our new baby, Amy, is now 13 days old. She is absolutely wonderful!

We had a rough first week with her. She had jaundice, not really bad, but it made her very sleepy which meant that she did not wake to be fed. We had a very stressful few days where we had to wake her every couple of hours to try to feed her, then had to express and give her the milk by teaspoon/syringe. She lost quite a lot of weight - over 10%.

This all culminated in a trip to Children's A&E last Monday where we saw a really nice Paediatrician who was very comforting. She did some tests just to be sure, which all came back ok. We had turned a corner and Amy is now feeding much better. We are still having to wake her if she does not ask for it, but she is getting more and more vigorous every day.

Amy is absolutely perfect, even when she is bawling or crapping noisily at unfortunate moments. She is worth the sleep-deprivation, the saggy belly, the tender boobs and all of the considerable money that we keep spending on her.

I have attached a photo of her from the day she was born (hope it works).

Well I gave Thomas his first dose of Infacol this evening on the recommendation of the public health nurse. I had been really reluctant about it for some reason, I just didn't like the idea of giving him medication I suppose. But it seems to have really helped his wind already!! He brought up some lovely big burps, whereas normally he grunts and groans but finds it really difficult to bring the wind up. And now he has settled peacefully to sleep in his basket. We actually had the beginnings of a bedtime routine this evening, bath at 7.30, feed and winding at 8, and settled into his basket (asleep) at 8.50. It's early days and we'll see how the rest of the night goes but I'm feeling really happy about it. And he seems so much more peaceful and contented rather than lying there grunting and groaning and wriggling!!

Did somebody suggest an Infacol appreciation society - can I join? :happydance::happydance:

Hi Mollington, Amy is beautiful.
We went through similar with the jaundice and having to wake Thomas for all his feeds. It was so scary at the time as he was just completely floppy and drowsy and would feed for 2 seconds and fall asleep. Luckily for me, I was still in hospital because I had a C-section, I don't know how I would have coped with it at home without the support of the hospital staff. I was so delighted when he started waking up himself for feeds, I wasn't so delighted when he continued to feed every hour or hour and a half until he was three weeks old, LOL. Glad that things have turned a corner with Amy, you will probably be soon be wishing she would feed a bit less often, LOL.

Polaris!!! Already a schedule!?? Way to go!!

Haha, I think that might be going a bit far! But we did have a much better night last night, just waking for feeds and back to sleep. Although we're back to feeding every two hours again for some reason

Polaris - I'm with you on the infacol, I gave it to Kacie last week and even before I'd lifted her up to my shoulder to wind her she did a nice big burp all by herself. It's been a god send :happydance:

I put the christmas tree up last night, and Kacie didn't stop looking at the lights, shes fascinated! Had a good last night too, I don't think I've had a bad one in about a week now (touch wood) Last feed at 10, straight to bed, up at 3:45, back to bed 4:15 and not up again till 8:30, it's definatly improving!

Can't believe she is 4 weeks old today, it's flying by!

Anyone else got little guzzle guts for babys? Kacie is having 4/5 oz's every 3 hours, bit longer in the night. My friend said Kacie is having the same as her little one and he is 10 weeks old

Katie is definitly a guzzle guts!! Just had her weighed again and last week she was 7lb 11oz (a 1lb increase from the week before) and today she was.......
8lb 13ozs  OMG, my baby is going to be as big as a house before she starts walking!!!

SPARKLERS!!! **group hug!!**

What a great idea!! Reunited at last!! Lol.

So glad everyone is doing so well, and we all have such amazingly beautiful babies!! :-D

Bella is 3 weeks old and has already put on 1 pound! :-D Well chuffed, all through breastfeeding :-D

Well ladies, my baby is officially a sparkly star....to be born yet  ...tick tock tick tock

Thanks Polaris, it's good to know other people have been through similar things.

Believe it or not I had a C-Section too but was discharged 28 hours after the birth. We were relieved at the time, but afterwards realised that it was just too soon.

As Amy's down-turn happened at the weekend, the level of support we received from the various people we spoke with was minimal and very disappointing. No one was available to visit us and we didn't manage to speak with the same person twice. At one point we were told by a midwife to just leave her for 6 hours, 'then she'll be really hungry'!! :growlmad::dohh::growlmad: Fortunately we did not follow this advice.

Anyway, all's well now and believe it or not I'll be happy when Amy starts to tell me when she's hungry. :baby:

I am quite shocked that you were discharged so soon after a c section, there's no way i would have been ready to go home at that stage. I too thought i would be really keen to go home and asking everyone what was the earliest i could go home. But as it turned out i was so relieved that i was still in hospital and actually decided to stay an extra day. And the advice you got from the midwife is shocking, that would be absolutely the worst thing you could do, thank god you had more sense, that is absolutely terrible. Anyway, as you say it is good that everything is fine now and don't worry, she will soon be letting you know all about it when she is hungry!!

Hey blood! fab to see you and hear your princess is as greedy as mine :)

Gosh i really have a LOT of updating to do i'm so sorry ladies :flower: I'll sort it soon promise.

How are you all doing? Me & mini moo Jaxon are doing great !
Ok nearly great but that's close enough for now, Jax still isn't back to his birth weight yet which the midwife said he should be, His jaundice is getting better so she was happy enough to let us continue as we were. She even commented how good i looked :) My brother said i'd lost weight in my face & looked healthy & my mum said she can see a huge difference in my belly going down ...Really gave me a boost with those i tell ya!

Jax is confused with day & night, sleeps & feeds so much better during day .. but wakes every 2hrs at night coz he wont feed long enough & i cant seem to wake him to make him feed better tut . We'll get there in time :)

I'm healing ok from the section, Out & about every day :) Was released from hosp 48hrs after section , stopped at my mums for 2 days but was sleeping ( well trying ) on the settee & wow that was well uncomfy so i came home which she wasn't impressed with but tough shit i needed to be home & in my own bed & relax. Me & jax have done some xmas shopping which he slept through *sigh* lol

Joshua adores his baby brother :cloud9: He's so good with him :)

anyhoo gotta get joshua ready for nursery now, added some piccies for you :)

Hey Chrissie! We're going to have chubby little babies!! Hehe.

Hey Dizzy, sorry to hear about the night feeds! But it's great your losing weight!! And Jax is looking so so gorgeous!! How is Josh getting on with him?

People keep commenting on how much weight i'm losing, but to be fair, i put on 5 stone while i was pregnant, so it's not that surprising that i've lost 2 stone already - i've got more weight to lose!! Lol. But am happy about my weight loss so far :) Hopefully it will keep dropping off! Am currently in size 18 jeans, and wanting to get back to my size 12s!! (though already the size 18 jeans are very loose on me!)

Bella is getting herself into a nice little routine which i'm quite happy with, and we are both doing well.

Have a had huge fallout in my family though :-( I booked tickets for a comedy show for my dads birthday, for him and my two sisters, thought it would be nice for just us four to spend time together, but then his wife (evil step-mother) kicked off and said he couldnt go if she doesnt go. Ridiculous. And it's all blown up and now my mother is involved and my step-sister has been sending me abuse via facebook (anyone who has my face book, check out my wall and see the things she has written!!)
anyway, it's really got me down, which is a bit shit as i really don't need this right now! Lol.

Anyway, hope everyone else is well! Sorry about my rant! Lol.

Hi Ladies

Well day 3 now and all going well so far :)
Hi Ladies

Just sat here enjoying a nice Baileys over ice whilst Daddy takes over cuddle duty - Zara has been an absolute angel so far

Feel like I have ran a marathon this morning - nobody prepares you for how knackered your arm and legs are over the next few days but I suppose with all that pushing and gripping it's not surprising - but something that took me a bit of time to figure why it hurt so much - long hot showers are to die for right now

Breast feeding seems to be going ok, Zara seems content but my milk must be coming in now as boobs have doubled in size today and are getting a bit warm and tender now so will have to keep an eye on that.

MW came out this morning and declared Zara to be practically perfect in every way - though I am biassed Just been reading my discharge notes and had to laugh at these times written on there:

membrane to birth 1:24 (didnt go until I was fully dilated)
first stage 0:45
2nd stage 2:05
third stage 0:05

Looks like I was a bionic woman according to that - I've been warned for baby number 2 I should maybe have a homebirth pack to hand to be on the safe side

Blondie, I was thinking that myself, no point you trying to get to the hospital as #2 is likely to come even quicker...lol

Dizzy, he is GORGEOUS!!! both your boys are beautiful honey! I know what you mean about the confusion between day and night, Katie is the same, she sleeps loads in the day and is awake more at night.... trying to change that but its hard at the mo as so many people want to visit and cuddle which is sending her to sleep..... d'oh!!

Hi there everyone.

Dizzymoo - Jaxon is absolutely gorgeous, good that the jaundice is going down, as soon as that clears up totally he will probably start feeding a lot better for you and he will be piling on the pounds! What beautiful photos!

Blondie - wow those labour statistics are impressive!! Sounds like you are doing brilliantly. I couldn't believe the size of my bbs on day 3, I looked completely out-of-proportion, luckily that does ease off although they are still gigantic, with the result that I am mainly still wearing my maternity tops although my normal bottoms all fit me!

Bloodbinds - good to hear that Bella is doing well. Try not to let the family stuff stress you out too much, you really don't need that stress, it's hard enough trying to look after a new baby without dealing with all that crap.

As for me - I had the BEST night last night. I had decided to start Thomas with a little bedtime routine and put him upstairs in the evening after his bath. Up until now we've been keeping him downstairs with us in his Moses basket and recently he has been very unsettled in the evenings, getting really over-tired but fighting sleep, wanting to feed but then pulling off the boob when I give it to him, and then crying sometimes for a couple of hours, the only thing that would settle him was walking round with him on my shoulder for hours which was not easy on the back. For the last few nights we finally settled him down at 4 a.m. one night and 2 a.m. another couple of nights. This was really starting to get me down and I was feeling so exhausted.

Anyway, last night I decided to start the bedtime routine because I thought part of why he was unsettled and cranky was that he was getting very over-stimulated in the evenings. Had to wake him up at 7 p.m. to start the bedtime routine, LOL, as he was having a nap and showing no signs of waking up! Gave him a feed of one boob, then gave him his bath which he really enjoys. He was really relaxed after his bath, I think he is getting more used to it as he normally screams when I take him out but last night he was fine. Got him dressed for bed then brought him up to the bedroom and gave him the other boob up there in a dark room, he was really sleepy and I rocked him to sleep in about ten minutes although I was afraid to put him in his basket for ages in case he woke up! I couldn't believe how well it went because he's normally impossible to get to sleep in the evenings! I was expecting he would still wake up later and be impossible to settle back down but he didn't! He still woke up for his feeds at 11 p.m., 2 a.m. and 5.30 a.m. but I kept the lights very dim and didn't speak to him and he didn't really properly wake up at all, just had his feed and went back to sleep!!! I am so delighted and proud of my little boy that he can do it! I'm sure tonight will probably be a disaster but I feel hopeful now that we will get there in the end!

Sorry for the big essay - well done if you managed to get this far, LOL. Just wanted to share my little success cos I feel like I'm normally coming on here to moan about how stressful my night has been!

Well fair do's the sparklers popped out stunners!!!!!!
