I am currently unemployed after being made redundant and, try as hard as I do, I've found it very difficult to get a new job. One interview in a year has been quite soul destroying. I would love to start my own business making crafts as this would mean I had even just a small income and could possibly be a stay at home mum when we have children. I've made a few wooden plaque signs as gifts recently and would love to see if there is money to be made making more. I don't have a lot of money to invest in it at the moment so I'm quite scared to give it a go. So far I've made wooden hearts as table names for a wedding, wooden Christmas stockings and a few quotes signs. I would be looking to, eventually, branch out to doing names for nurseries, special signs for birthdays and births etc. I've already made up a very basic website on one of my braver days when I thought I could make a go of it.

I'd love to know if any of you have started your own business and how you went about it. Also, i would love to know if you would be interested in buying wooden plaques. I am not trying to make a sale here! I just am curious if there is a market out there for me. Any advice would be very appreciated as OH says we can maybe start TTC when I have an income!!

Thanks

try making a facebook site and ask family & friends to 'share' it!

Ebay is another good option; people will be regularly searching for those kind of things, especially for weddings, that way you hit a bigger target audience.

I'd maybe be a little broader in what you're going to sell though to try and attract more people, so If weddings if your thing, maybe do table decorations too so people can get the whole package off you

Good luck

A Facebook page is a very good way to network and get your products seen and as mentioned wedding buyers search on eBay for those kinds of things  Don't worry about not having a lot to invest. In the early days you can just make to order so you wouldn't need an inventory of stock. Good luck
