Does anybody have any experience with store brand formula? I want what is best for my baby, but the store brand is half the cost! I know that in the US there are strict regulations on formula, so shouldn't they All be as good? Sorry about bad typing, on my phone.

With my first dd we used members mark powder formula from SAMs. She is super smart! My pediatrician at the time said it was just as good as name brand. We use similac sensitive now bc we qualify for WIC otherwise we'd be using members mark again!

I used Presidents Choice with both my boys. All the formula has to have the same guidelines so to me its really personal choice and how well baby does on one type or another.

I didn't like the walmart brand but the target brand is great. I recommend it.

Just to let you know my LO got extremely constipated on the Target brand, I had been using Similac sensitive and decided to try Target brand. Well she was screaming and screaming, she pooped a hard green log and then her little butt was bleeding :(

I called the nurse in a panic and she said that even tho the ingredients are the same that some use different oils and that the babies can react to these. So we are back on name brand again...... it's so expensive! but my LO was fine after a day back on it.

So I would do a trial of it and not buy a lot at once as it may not agree with your LO

I'd certainly give it a go and see if it agrees with your little one. You could compare ingredients to more expensive brands and you'll often find they're nearly identical or the name brands have more in them. Often times less is more though. I understand what you mean about wanting to give the best for your baby and therefore thinking some of the more expensive brands surely must be better than store brands. My daughter's been on a store brand formula since she was a few days old and we switched completely to it at 3 weeks. She's done very well on it, she's healthy and growing/developing well. In her first weeks she was a gassy baby with some tummy discomfort and she spit up a lot but she was on my milk too so I think that had all to do with her stomach adjusting to food in general.

To be fair, it isn't just the target brand that does it. This happens when you switch to formula. It does get better. This happened to dd when I put her on formula from breast milk. It is just something new for their system to get used to and each baby is different.

We tried enfamil and similac with my dd and even the gentle she couldn't handle. Target is about the only thing she could. My son was fed target brand and is great. I did a lot of research. All of it (IMO) is the same but is processed differently. If you do change to a store brand (or change brand) then you should give LO a few weeks to adjust.

Oops you said basically what I said. I should read the post clearly. Forgive me.

no worries! i just hated seeing her so constipated so i wanted to put that out there :)

I used walmart brand with ds. Its the same as similac in terms of ingredients. He could drink any brand soy,regular..and never had a problem. we didn't qualify for wic, so it was the cheaper option for us too.

again we don't qualify for wic, and was denied maternity pay too! which is bull!! that claim is currently being reviewed. that pay was to be for formula and diapers. well, we have internet now,we didn't when ds was a baby. Now I buy all my formula from craigslist! I've gotten so much for free or cheap, it's amazing!!diapers too.

I bought 24 cans, and 3 tubs so far...and these are name brand mind you, she drinks either similac or enfamil with no problems... but have only spent $55!!!! thats the cost of 2 tubs!!!! Even if my disability claim gets approved, i'll still use craigslist! i'm getting 3 more free cans this friday :) I got 508 size 1 diapers stocked before she was born...for $44!!

wow!!!!!!

I never see any for free on my craigslist. The people here are greedy and want to sell what they got for free for 12 a can which is almost full price.

We use the target brand formula. The regulations are so strict I didn't see a problem with it. LO guzzles it down and hasn't had a problem with constipation luckily. He poops regularly and giggles about it :haha:

We use the target brand, and its great! I think DH did some research and target, Walmart and meijer brands are the exact same as each other with different labels.

I find that alot too!! Or they sell what they haven't used that they got for free from WIC.

There has been 3 free ads now in the past month. I guess you just gotta be on top of ads often, and respond the quickest.

Most of the time, I can get cans for $5 each, if not less, cause i'll offer a lower price on multiple cans.
