I've just seen this on another part of BnB and thought everyone might be interested for the future :D

Its a list of all the things you can do to help eliminate the likelyhood of strechmarks. Although some people say its a genetic thing and if your mother had them when she was pregnant then you will to :/

So i don't know with that one but they can't hurt to try can they lets be honest. We'd all i bet give our right arm (kinda lol) to avoid stretchmarks. I would anyway :haha: :D xx

1. Eat a very healthy diet to nourish your skin (and your baby) from the inside out. Take your prenatal vitamins and eat the right amount of calories from healthy foods which provide plenty of calcium, protein, whole grains, and vitamin rich fruits and vegetables.

2. Drink eight or more glasses of water and/or other fluids daily to hydrate your skin and maintain elasticity.

3. Follow guidelines for gradual weight gain, in the recommended amount. This should be about 25-35 pounds if you're a healthy weight, slightly more if you're underweight or expecting twins and slightly less if you're overweight. The faster you gain weight during pregnancy, the more likely it is you will get stretch marks.

4. Moisturize your breasts, belly, sides, lower back, thighs and anywhere else you think you might get stretch marks at least morning and night if you wish. Creams and lotions have not been medically proven to prevent stretch marks as they cannot penetrate to the deep skin layer where stretch marks occur, but they can help your skin to feel less dry and itchy. Cocoa butter, almond oil and shea butter are marvelous choices. Also wheatgerm oil. If you can find pure Lanolin, it works very well. If you notice itching where your skin is being stretched, that is a sign to add more moisturizer in that area. A good over the counter treatment for stretch marks is Zenmed's Stretta. It contains high grade glycolic acid and medicinal botanical extracts that help to erase the marks quickly without causing any irritation or itching.

5. Continue regimen after you deliver until you're back to your target weight. rapid weight loss can also result in stretch marks!

6. Have warm rather than hot showers, as hot water can dehydrate the skin and increase chances of tearing.

7. Consuming plenty of vitamin C improves elasticity of the skin. Look for Sea Buckthorn which is extremely high in vitamin C, as well as blackcurrants, berries, kiwi fruit and raw foods in general.

8. Birch is a diuretic herb that helps to flush out excess water in the body, reducing strain on the skin, it’s great for cellulite too. Look out for Birch Juice, Birch Body Scrub and Birch Cellulite Oil.

9. Exercise daily. Women who practice regular exercise are more likely to have elastic healthy skin less prone to tearing, even a walk in the park will help.

The only one I didn;t do was no 8 cos I have no idea what it is! Lol! And I have loads! I only gained 19lbs in my whole pregnancy, and I'm covered! Dunno if the pic worked?

I don't find that gross at all! :D Thank you for the list wannaBmummy! It's not the actual stretch marks that I'm actually worried about. It wouldn't bother me too much (I grew up around my mums stretch marks so maybe it's something I'm used to?), it's actually the fact that I have a tattoo just above my left hip, stretching up and a round my belly button, and I'm more concerned of the possible damage to the tattoo! :(. Really worries me, but I guess I could eventually get it touched up. x

awww it didn't gross me out lol and maybe then stretchmarks is just to do with genetics, some get them some don't :shrug:

I'll deffinatly give them a shot anyway.

I don't really want them tbh cause i've got loads anyway growing up from where i was put on steroids when i got really in and was admitted to hospital. But they never were red they were just like faded from the start so i'm hopping not to get big red ones.

Plus i'm really self concious anyway so i don't need anything else to me it worse lol

But i know if i do get them they're just a sign of being a mummy anyway :) xx

I have Bio Oil at home as I have some stretchmarks on my thighs :( I quickly put weight on a few years ago but only on my thighs?! The Bio Oil helped me fade them but I still have a few silvery lines

doesnt gross me out, i have stretchmarks from when i was really fat and now ive lost most the weight i still have them as a reminder :haha:

I did everything there too except for 8 and still ended up with stretch marks. Good news is though that if you do get them they do fade overtime and now they're more white and me being very pale they're hard to see unless you are up close. :)

I know its shallow but im shitting myself about getting stretchmarks :dohh:

However, i read that Elemis Japanese Camellia Oil is proven to prevent stretchmarks in pregnancy

I'll let you know the truth in around 14 months time :haha:

oh cool might look that up myself :) x

My mom got pregnancy strechmarks and I didn't get any on my belly, so there is hope! I was completely freaked out about them while pregnant as I am still somewhat young and have a lot of bikini years ahead of me. I got bigger and bigger and no stretchies ever came...but after giving birth I could see my inner thighs again and realized I had some there...and on my buttcheeks!!!! EEEK! And a few on my boobies. I followed every rule in the book, but towards the end I developed pre-e and swelled up like a balloon, I think that's when my skin started to rip apart. So gradual weight gain is key, but you can't really help ballooning up sometimes so don't be too hard on yourself if you do.

hi guys- im new here!!

I did everything by the book- i used oil that cost £60 per bottle and went through sooo many when pregnant!!

Im a tall girl- always on my feet and on the go- eat healthy, take lots of fluids etc.

when i was 6 months pregnant i barely had a bump- then woooooooosssssshhhhh

by 9 months i had the biggest bump ever- no weight on me anywhere else just this huge bump- around 8 months i got stretchmarks that would make u sick- they are still pure red 5 months on- as if a bear attacked me- i was devastated- i was soo traulmatised i took photos on a daily basis to see them growing up my belly- my husband kept saying they were not getting worse- then he would get the slide show of pictures i had taken!!!!!!

i think its just your skin type and for me it was clearly the huge growth in a short time!!! but i suppose they might have been worse if i wasnt soooo good with oils and stuff- not that i think they could get worse to be honest!!!

my mum has zero stretchmarks!!!! not fair!!! ha ha

I done all that throughout pregnancy apart from no. 8, I didn't get a single stretchmark, until I gave birth now I am covered in them on my boobs, hips, tummy and thighs :(

A friend used to rub cocoa butter on his pregnant girlfriend morning and night through the whole pregnancy and swore that's why she didn't have a single stretch mark. I don't know if it really works or if it was a coincidence but I like the idea of my OH rubbing cocoa butter on me twice a day!:haha:

I'm sure there are lots of factors, but one thing I noticed when I worked in L&D is that young mums got the WORST stretch marks. Legs, abdomen, everywhere. Of course there are exceptions, but this is just what I noticed. Older moms (I don't mean OLD, just late twenties or early thirties) seem to be a bit better off in general.

I have stretch marks from when I was a teenager, but didn't get a single new one when I was pregnant with Simon (I was 27), so maybe this works with my theory? Who knows.

well by the looks of it everyone has a different stroy :D thanks for sharing xx

i used cocoa butter too- i was obsessed with rubbing oils and butters and anything i could- to no avail!!!!

but it is lovely the feeling of your skin is so smooth and i loved the smell of it when i was pregnant!!

I'm a redhead with really fair skin so I was pretty much destined to get stretchmarks no matter what I did. :dohh: My mom got them as well. Mine were really bad. But my DH loves them. He says they are soft. :haha: They are mostly faded to white now so it just blends with my skin tone. I do think for some people it just doesn't matter what you try. Some of us are just destined to get them. And they really aren't bad or ugly. :flower:
