Stupid OH.

Thank you all for your input, it took a while but I finally managed to change his mind. Still so annoyed though! I'll remember this one for a long time

You are NOT being unreasonable!

My hospital will NOT let you go home with an expired seat, and I'm sure all hospitals probably think the same. It really is a big deal. It'd be really disappointing if the doctor said you could go home but couldn't cause of a stupid car seat. Tell your OH that... I'm sure he'd hate for that to happen as it's just one big inconvenience.

Men, they don't use their brains sometimes!

Oh, you just posted as I posted so didn't so you're last post :p

Glad he changed his mind!

My DH fought me on most baby purchases until he laid eyes on his precious bundle. Now anything she wants, she gets.

There are very few things that shouldn't be bought or used second hand and a infant car seat is one of them! People are not exactly honest about the condition of their used car seats. Expiry is one thing but even a slight fender bender can create hairline cracks in the base of the car seat itself making it extremely susceptible to breaking in the event of another accident. A friend of mine teaches these courses in Canada. Please purchase your car seats new so there is no worry/question in your mind that is safe and comes from factory unused or tampered with.

Otherwise most if not all other things are fine to get second hand. Most of the things we got for our son were second hand, I am definitely about saving money but please invest in a good new and factory sturdy car seat. It will aid in transporting the most precious cargo EVER!

My mother is the same about the next stage up seats, I have an 11 year old sister and she is adamant that she is just going to have the seat she had for her in her car (she will be looking after the baby 2-3 days a week when I go back to work). She refuses to listen about the expiry dates because she knows she hasn't had a crash, so when the time comes to move him up into the next group seat I will have to find the money to buy her a separate seat for her car I think.

I agree with what everyone else has said, find some statistics and facts to show your OH (that's what I'm going to try with my mum) and hopefully that will make it click. If needs be I am sure there are some horror story articles about accidents in old car seats, a tough love shock approach might help.
