Okay so tomorrow we're going into town after our scan and we're gunna get just some little things for LO. I wanna get some bottles, but i was wondering how many i should get?

I hope to be exclusively BF for about 3-4 weeks, then i'll have to go back to college. So i wanna express for when im not there, and then BF when i am. But i havent got a clue how many bottles to get  Will 12 be enough? Cause i'm only gunna be unable to breastfeed between 9.00am - 4pm

Obviously i dont have to get the bottles tomorrow, i've just been really exicted about it

I was only planning on getting 6 myself. I think 12 will be alot. Not that I'd know or anything lol. I plan on trying to breastfeed most of the time too, but express so OH and family can feed baby too.

I thought about 6, but i was wondering if i get like a really fussy baby who feeds all the time. And then you've gotta sterilise bottles. and is there really point in just sterilising two or three. :dohh:
So much to think about and they're not even here yet!

Hmm, good point. I didn't even think of that. I'm really not very prepared :( haha. I plan on getting a cold water steriliser and think it'll be easy just to put bottles in and then just rinse them when they are done.

I got the tommee tippee closer to nature electric steam steriliser, you pop them in and theyre done within 5 mins :)

I got 6 bottles and i got 1 small one with the steriliser so 7 in total, i also plan to breastfeed.

May i ask who will be looking after LO whilst your at college? only because if its someone at home who has access to the steriliser you could just combine both breast and forumla feeding. I have got some Aptamil first milk in case I dont produce enough milk if baby is a little piggy lol or if im out and i havnt expressed so OH can just make him a bottle with the formula instead

If that made any sense well done for understanding :haha:

so for example you could prepare 6 bottles of breast milk (sore boobies lol!) and if LO manages to finish them all before your home, whoever is looking after them can just sterilise the bottles obv after LO has drunk the very last one, and then once the bottles are sterilised just make up a new bottle using the powder formula

I know you aren't an expert or anything lol...so hope you don't mind me asking.
But I've been wondering if you express milk can you only express so much? Like if you were planning to go out for the whole day and you needed milk (I only ask because I know I really don't wanna breastfeed in public) could you express enough milk or would I have to take formula bottles with me?

i personally only bought 4 as i plan to bf as much as i can, but im a stay at home mom so its easier for me, but i personally would invest in the storage bags so u can pump and then freeze https://www.playtexbaby.com/Bottles/Breast-Milk-Storage-Kit this is what i tried to use with my first son but i gave up on bf :dohh: but they were nice!

tbh I have no idea lol  I do know some babies especially in the first month i think drink a lot of milk and sometimes your supply isnt enough because your boobs arent used to producing that much milk in a day for baby. It depends how much your feeding. I know thats odd because we should have a never ending supply of milk all the time. I watched something on TV a while ago about breast feeding and pumps and its took her ages to actually pump the milk so it could take you hours to do it

I dont plan to breastfeed in public either so If i was to go shopping i might take like 2 bottles of express milk and have the powder milk in a small pot ready to mix with the water in case i run out.
The powder milk is specially formulated to be just as good as breast milk and apparently aptamil is one of the best brands in UK to do combine breast/formula feeding

I think twelve will be plenty, lol. :D
I only have two. I just alternate and wash the other. :flow:

I've only had four and they've been more than enought. I formula feed. x

I also have the tomme tippie ones ( how ever u spell it )
I have 6 big ones and 4 small ones

Dont wanna piss in your crisps babe .. But it can take 6 weeks to get BFing established and get into a routine..
Why are you going back to college that soon?
xxx

Two!!? Haha. That's cutting it too close for me. :haha:

We use Playtex Drop In's and have 6 of them (four 4oz, two 10oz). We'd be fine with 2 of each. I like to have one made, one with water for night, and one with just formula in it in my diaper bag.

(Is sterlizing bottles really pushed in the UK? The drop ins you use a new liner everytime or like, every three times for us, haha, but even when I was using normal bottles I never bothered or nor was I told to sterilize. Finn's no worse off. It sounds like such a pain!)

Two. :haha:
I went from Drop Ins to Ventair after the Drop Ins kept exploding, lol! I don't premake my bottles though so I just alternate.

I think sterilizing and using boiled water is the norm in the UK. I sterilize once every day when I run the dishwasher but I just use tap water which has a filter on it.

I still dont know how you managed to get the drop ins to explode! Haha. We have never had that problem.

We sterilize everything.. Bottles & Teats.. Dummies.. Bowls & Spoons etc.. Until baby is 12 months old..

When I worked in the baby room in a nursery if I gave a baby under 12 months a bottle etc that wasnt sterilized I would get a disaplinary and could even get suspended or sacked if the parents found out and complained...

xx

^ I used to use the playtex drop-in's. The milk would spew everywhere whenever we would try to get the air out though! (there is nothing more depressing that watching your expressed milk spew down the front of LO. :nope:) Now, we just use the regular bottles when needed. We don't sterilize them, though. We just wash them with really hot, soapy water.

We have five bottles and two nipples (Dr. Brown Level One's) that we alternate between. 3 four oz bottles, 2 eight oz bottles.

We never bothered to do that. Just held it for him so he wouldn't get the air. Now that he can hold a bottle himself he's super lazy and will let it sit upright on the floor, put his mouth on the nipple, and suck all the air out so the milk comes up to the top. Then he'll pick it up and drink. :dohh:
