Stupid?

Sorry, i've been out for dinner.
I'm probably gunna get Tommee Tippee as i prefer the size of the teats.

I'm not sure who'll be looking after LO whilst im at college yet. I've not thought that far ahead. But i'm hoping it'll be my mum as i wont be going back to college for long, so she'll have access to all my things.

Nade, as if it might take 6 weeks! :( that suckssss. I just think i should go back sooner because i'll probably only get 6 weeks off at most, and i really dont want to get behind on my work. I'll be going back late April/Early may, and my exams start at the end of May :dohh: But i'll only be back 3 weeks or so before i''m back on study leave..

Yeah, we sterilise everything here  I guess when they get older, they're more relaxed on it. Although once my older sister (my mums practise baby) got thrush in her mouth from something in the sterilizing powder cause it killed all the healthy bacteria in her mouth or something

Yeh I was just talking to my mum as she runs a BF group.. and she said it can take 6 weeks to establish..
No offence to anyone who does but I dont agree with Breast feeding and Bottle feeding at the same time.. I dont think it's fair on baby.. Most BF babies wont take a bottle anywho xxx

Buggaring hell! I'm gunna have to stimulate my nipples like crazy to try get em working more effeciently once LO is here :haha:
Have you seen the Tommee Tippee closer to nature bottles? They have a really big teat so its more like a boobie. Obviously though everyone has their own opinions :flow: Either way i want LO to get my breastmilk. If they start getting confused, then i'll just have to do my last few weeks of college at home. I'd much rather BF than bottle feed, even if it is expressed :)
xx

I like the tommee tippee bottles, i plan on getting them. Though im not going to breast feed :nope: but they are meant to be really good and help with colic :flower:

Yeh I've used them in the nursery.. I just dont like bottles :/ You have to worry about sterilizing them and having them handy etc.. when my bangers are attatched to my chest and the right temp etc..
I just think it should be one or tuther - Just my opinion I guess.. I'm a boobie person and think Breast is best :flower:

xx

I would love to boobie feed. But as you just said it should be one or the other. And considering i wouldnt be comfortable breast feeding in front of anyone (i hardly ever wear vest tops lol) i would still have to use bottles.
Its mainly a confidence thing with me i think :nope:

You do know no one can see anything when you BF?
Have a loosh into it hunny.. You might be suprised! And there's loads of BF support groups around!
You might find you love it!
If you put baby on your chest for skin to skin after birth.. You may find that they find you boob themselves and latch on.. and you become a natural at it!
BF is sooo discreat.. you shouldnt be embarrassed or anything and there are loads of places you can go if you are out and LO needs a feed
xxx

I'm going to get the Phillips Avent bottles and I think I will have around 8 because they sell them in packs - I will get different teets for them though for baby getting a bit older. I'm going back to work asap too so probably about 4 weeks after baby is born too and OH is taking paternity leave for a little while :). I have no idea if i'm going to breastfeed or do half and half or what .. I will try to breastfeed but I am going to get formula in just incase :flower:. Amazon do some really good deals on bottles/sterilizers btw :)! xxx

If your only bottle feeding i think maybe 6-8 is fine . I've read babies eat about 8 times the first 3 months

Just wondering, how is it unfair to baby? My LO has taken a bottle + breast from day one.
:flower:

I think twelve will be plenty, lol. :D
I only have two. I just alternate and wash the other. :flow:

Two!!? Haha. That's cutting it too close for me. :haha:

We use Playtex Drop In's and have 6 of them (four 4oz, two 10oz). We'd be fine with 2 of each. I like to have one made, one with water for night, and one with just formula in it in my diaper bag.

(Is sterlizing bottles really pushed in the UK? The drop ins you use a new liner everytime or like, every three times for us, haha, but even when I was using normal bottles I never bothered or nor was I told to sterilize. Finn's no worse off. It sounds like such a pain!)

Yeah its normal to sterlize bottles, teets ETC in the uk

my mother had to go back to her residency shortly after I was born (she's the crazy breast-feeding lady  ) and so I was given expressed milk while she was at the various hospitals but I wouldn't accept a bottle. I don't exactly know the story but this was obviously an issue so they went to the Dr. to ask what to do and from then on I was fed expressed milk from a cup. (might have been a sippy cup but not too sure of the details.. as a little baby drinking from a cup sounds a bit scary)

i had about 6 but i did combined feeding as much as they say it should be one or the other it doesnt have to be i struggled for the first 3 weeks till i saw someone so she was mostly on bottles then at 3 weeks i mostly bf and ff at night of whilst i was out as i was self consious to do it. but when u buy bottles i made the mistake of getting alot of the small tommee tippee bottle but they only last a few month before they start taking more milk so i would get mostly the bigger size :)

We have 8 Tommee Tippee bottles. I make 6 bottles up in the morning + store them in the fridge, then I also have the spare 2 for water inbetween feeds, especially when it's hot or Cadence has constipation.

Even if you're going to breastfeed, it's best to have bottles ready for when baby comes because not everyone can breastfeed.
Cadence had severe tongue tie + couldn't get any milk from me, she lost a ton of weight + I had to formula feed her to stop her from starving! The hospital took so long in referring her to have it snipped that my supply was severely affected despite pumping. :nope:
At the start, I had to sterilise 6 bottles, twice a day because she was only drinking little + often. Now at 4.5 months, she's taking a lot + less often.

One of my best friends is a personal trainer, she recommends giving yourself 6 weeks to recover before doing any exercise/work/college etc. Isn't it a little early to go back to college? What if baby is 2 weeks late? You'll be exhausted especially if you end up having stitches or a C-Section babe :hugs:

I mean if you BF and then switch to bottle feeding it can confuse LO. I did a whole study unit on it. And like I said "I dont think it's fair on baby"..
What you do is your choice..
I personally will never use a bottle unless it has water in it.. and will never use formula unless I cant BF.. which is unlikely.. :flow:
xx

I understand what everyone is saying, and you're all probably right about going back to college that quickly, especially the mums who already have their LO's as you know far more about what you're talking about.

I just really dont want to get behind on school work as this is my last free year of education. I'm kind of preparing for LO to come late, as statistics show that most first born's do. So if LO comes around the first two weeks of april, i probably wont go back to school at all, or only be there for about a week and then we'll be on study leave. Obviously i'm just kind of thinking about what i guess would happen in my idealistic world. I know it'll probably be very unrealistic, especially if for some reason i do need a c-section.

Also, to go back onto the main topic of the thread. We got 6 260ml Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles today. I know not all babies latch on and some women do have problems with breastfeeding, and if thats the case we'll just buy more.

Will they not be able to send you work? They used to do that with me when I was poorly and couldn't get to college before I was pregnant.
6 bottles should be enough sweetheart, I just had 2 extra ones after LO was born. We swapped to the anti colic plus ones when she was older too.

No need to be defensive.. I wasn't attacking you, just wondered what you meant. :flower:

I've heard that some babies can't go back and forth easily. Breanna (Cammy) had a situation where here LO wouldn't do both. So she had to cut out bottles and just do breast. I must have gotten lucky... my LO goes back and forth whenever necessary, and doesn't have a problem. (thank goodness!) :cloud9:

Oh no i wasnt being deffensive.. Was just saying being against bottles is my opinion n beliefs n i wasnt trying to force it on anyone lol.
Yeh all babies are different with combined feeding. I just dont like the idea of swapping between the 2 :flower:

My sister has just had her first baby she desperatl wanted to breastfeed but cant, her nipple is so cracked its constantly bleeding and everytime her lo crys she got filled with panic and upset,

shes now gently hand expressing and using formula . . . which is absolutly fine and working well for her!

Oscar combi fed for 2 months after exclusively breastfeeding for 2 months is it worked fine . . . i dont see how its not fair on the baby? he was perfectly happy with it!
