Stupid?

I understand what everyone is saying, and you're all probably right about going back to college that quickly, especially the mums who already have their LO's as you know far more about what you're talking about.

I just really dont want to get behind on school work as this is my last free year of education. I'm kind of preparing for LO to come late, as statistics show that most first born's do. So if LO comes around the first two weeks of april, i probably wont go back to school at all, or only be there for about a week and then we'll be on study leave. Obviously i'm just kind of thinking about what i guess would happen in my idealistic world. I know it'll probably be very unrealistic, especially if for some reason i do need a c-section.

Also, to go back onto the main topic of the thread. We got 6 260ml Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles today. I know not all babies latch on and some women do have problems with breastfeeding, and if thats the case we'll just buy more.

If you have help with baby then I don't see any problems with you going back to college :). I will be going back to work as soon as possible, obviously it depends on the circumstances of the birth and how baby is doing but I make really good money and as i'm only entitled to MA and my OH gets a great paternity package if I go back to work so it makes more sense for us to work it this way :). Don't feel bad for going back to college - you are only trying to do what will be best for your LO in the long run :flower: xxx

My sister has just had her first baby she desperatl wanted to breastfeed but cant, her nipple is so cracked its constantly bleeding and everytime her lo crys she got filled with panic and upset,

shes now gently hand expressing and using formula . . . which is absolutly fine and working well for her!

Oscar combi fed for 2 months after exclusively breastfeeding for 2 months is it worked fine . . . i dont see how its not fair on the baby? he was perfectly happy with it!

Like I said all babies are different :flower:
I personally dont like it.. But I respect that it's what others choose to do
I have my own views on it.. I think that if you have the ability to breastfeed then you should.. And that boob is better than bottle.. We didnt have bottles back in the day and I dont like the idea of sticking a manufactured object into my LO's mouth when I have a perfectly natural pair of breasts.. But it's MY opinion.. I wouldnt force it on anyone else.. It's personal choice and what YOU think is best for your LO :flower:

Katey, i guess because it'll only be a couple weeks before we break up for maternity leave, so im actually considering not going back now i've thought about it. We wont be learning anything new within those two weeks, we'll just be recapping things we've already done. And if im honest, i do work so much better on my own at home - at school i just chatter :dohh: I know it will be difficult to study at home with a newborn, but im sure i'd still be able to get more done.

and theres also more tactful ways of saying things  It the nicest way possible i really hope breastfeeding works for you because in all honesty its very easy to have your views when pregnant, and i also hope no one speaks to you in that tone if breastfeeding doesnt work out for you . . . like it doesnt for a lot of women :nope:

This! I couldn't breastfeed due to no fault of my own and it was horrible. I was so against bottles during pregnancy but still got some just incase and it's a good job I did because LO was poorly because I couldn't feed her and tried to hold off on giving bottles but my poor little girl was starving! I felt like I failed her and then people kept telling me about how they can BF their LO an how good their LO was at latching on and it made me feel worse.

Hope it all works out for you Nade! x

Good for you hunny! breast is defo best and its great that you are so set on it! of course there is always a chance that it wont work for you but i beleive in positive thinking, if you think you can do it, you probably will! good luck to you xxxx

I wanted to breastfeed and couldn't. It was heartbreaking but i don't agree that there is something wrong with a bottle? Without bottles what would we do when we couldn't breastfeed? I think it is easy to have opinions before your LO is born, especially with how much BF-ing is pushed at the moment but it leads to heartbreak when it doesn't work out.

Seriously, girls. The OP is buying bottles regardless of if you all think 'breast is best.' I think a happy baby is best!

I wanna get some bottles, but i was wondering how many i should get?

She just wanted to know how many to get, not start a thread where girls have to feel upset because BFing wasn't what they did for their LO (whether by choice or circumstance). No need for everyone to get upset-- for or against bottles. :flower:

I think the number of needed bottles has ranged from 2 (only shannon...) to I guess around 8 or so? Shaunagh, I'm thinking 12 would definitely be plenty then. ;) Are you going to get some big ones & some small ones?

Can I just stress what I said:

I wasnt talking to anyone in any sort of 'tone' It's my opinion based on what I know about BF and all it's benefits..
If breastfeeding doesnt work for me I would happily give my baby a bottle..
Obviously I'm not going to starve them :coffee:
I was saying I think if you CAN you should.. I'm sorry that breastfeeding doesnt work for everyone.. Especially if you planned to BF..
I plan to BF until LO is 18months (which isnt to everyones liking) And would be heartbroken if for some reason I couldnt..

But as I've said like 3 times now..It's MY opinion.. I wouldnt force it on anyone else.. It's personal choice and what YOU think is best for your LO - So dont see it as I was attacking you for not being able to.. Or talking to you in any tone

And yes Shaunagh I think 12 will be plenty hun.. atleast with that many you should always have atleast one ready sterilized

xxx

^ Exactly. You could probably get a few less and still be fine, but this way you'll have plenty. Not to mention, if you are pumping, you will go through more bottles because you'll need to refridgerate whatever you pump & aren't supposed to mix warm and cold milk (that's what my nurse said, so I just refridgerate numerous bottles if I need to).

I'm not sure if that made sense? :dohh: Your bottles could be on shifts, six already clean to use while six are being sterilised? :flow:

Yeh that makes sense  lol..
If I were using them I think 12 is a safe number to have for that reason :flower:
If you've got some in the sterilizer and then as soon as you use one wash it n pop it back in .. and making sure your fridge is well stocked of boobie milk then you shouldnt go wrong :hugs:

Regardless of my BF views - I think I'm too lazy to bottle feed.. And I'd forget to sterilize bottles or even take them with me... I'm prone to losing things - So am comforted by that fact there's a very slim chance I'd forget my boobs on an outing :haha:
xx

My OH is worse for forgetting/losing things though.. I'm dreading him looking after baby alone..
I'm tempted to attactch a keyfinder to LO just for piece of mind!!
xx

We have 14 bottles and they are not enough. It's constant washing and sterilizing and I hate that. Especially when we spontaneously decide to go somewhere. We have Tommee Tippee bottles and they are absolutely useless for Lucia :haha: I hated the look of Avent bottles the whole time during my pregnancy and now we use them! I also planned to exclusively breastfeed for the first 6 months but Lucia has reflux and was havig chocking fits. Plus my supply vanished so we had to switch to Formula. Don't set anything in stone yet because things could change when your LO arrives :flow:

WSS,its very well and good to have such strong views while pregnant but without sounding patronising it soon changes.

Just dont get your hopes up to high, wishing you all the luck in the world but if someone said to you "i dont want to stick chemicals/plastic whatever you said" in my babys mouth when you for some reason couldnt breastfeed,im sure youd have something to say . . . . :flower:

We were using tommee tippe closer to nature, with them you get MILK STORAGE POTS so you can pump into them, rather than the bottle so even if you only have 1 bottle it can be washed and sterilized before bubs wants another, I was on a rotaion of 6 bottles 2 ready to use 4 washed and ready to sterilize iykwim. but yeah 6 will be plenty. OH and IMO i wouldnt bother with the little 5 oz bottles I'd just buy the 9oz bottles and baby wil hardly use the little ones.

I honestly didnt mean 'I'm not going to stick manufactured objects in my babies mouth full stop!'
I mean IF my boobs are fully functioning I would never choose to use a bottle instead of breast.. IF I couldnt BF for some reason.. I would have to cause I'm not going to let my baby starve lol
I'm not making out bottles are poisonous or something.. I was just saying my first option is breast
Just like I'd prefer breast milk to formula.. But if I couldnt BF and couldnt express.. I'd have to use formula.. Again not saying it's poison.. It's just not my first option
I wasnt trying to offend anyone.. Or make anyone feel like I'm starting up a 'ProBoobie - AntiBottle Cult' :haha:
It's your preference and what you feel is right for you and your baby :flower:

Dragging up a thread :haha: But i guess its my own, so thats okay.

I mentioned on another thread that i got 6 x 260ml Tommee Tippee Bottles. I really like the look of them and what not. I decided not to bother getting the smaller ones as you can just put less milk in the bigger ones. You cant put more milk in the little ones

I've been thinking about it alot, and the chances of me going back to college for the last few weeks after LO arrives is just decreasing. I'm not much seeing the point of it anymore as i'll probably have learnt everything i need to know.

My plans are to breastfeed (and express for if i do go back to college), but obviously some people for one reason or another are unable to BF. Thats more what my bottles are for. I'm hoping for the best, but still preparing for alternatives. I dont want this to turn into another Breastfeeding vs Formula Feeding thread. We've already got one of those :haha:

Just get as many as you want xD You can never have to many bottles!
I got a lot given to me.. So I don't know if I need any, but I will probably get some just so I have them.
Have fun baby shopping! ^_^

Ill probably end up getting too many bottles. Im getting mostly the big tommie tippie ones. but there is a deal somewhere (Ill give you a link if i remember it) That you get four free little tommie tippies when you buy the sterilizer xx
