I had an ultrasound yesterday and at the very earliest I'm 5+5 according to o date. My hcg was only 1640 and all they saw was a 5 mm empty gestational sac. I just had a miscarriage so I'm really worried bc this is what happened last time :[ anyone measure like a week behind even when they're sure of their o date and everything turned out okay? I have to get another beta done sunday and I have another u/s on thursday.

i had a sac measuring 8mm.. I thought i was 6+4... A 1mm fetal pole but it was sooooooo tiny, they wernt 1000%.. So yea.. Its possible, at that scan i was put back 2weeks, went back 10 days later n had a 6+6 peanut, bigger than his yolk sac and a lovely strong hb. Try not to worry plz..they grow in spurts and some take a lil time to make that first poof into life..xxxhugs

Well I think I was about 51/2 or 6 weeks or so with DD when I had my first scan. I had the same thing, just a yok sac (don't remember how big), no baby, so I had to wait a week and come back. Well sure enough, baby was there just fine!!

Hope everything goes well for you too!:hugs::hugs::hugs:

I went in for my first scan at what I thought was 8 weeks. I was really 6. They saw the sac and they said there was blood flow. My LMP was 9.21.10 and my first positive test was 10.24.10. I went back a week later and was seven weeks and two days. According to my period i should be almost 12 weeks. But I am going from what they have told me I am now 9 weeks. Everything will be fine I'm sure! I ovulated later than I thought... So technically I'm almost 12 weeks prego but have an almost 10 week fetus. Weird!!! Good luck sweetie!!

hey honey let me try and post a pic of my ultrasound from my last pregnancy at 5+5 and then the repeat at 7w. The 5+5 showed a gest sac of I think it was 4mm, theres a dotted line pointing to it in the picture. The 7week scan shows my baby! And shes a big healthy girl now :) Also my dates were not wrong! the 7week scan was SPOT on and my 12 week scan actually put me FORWARD 6 days!

omg thank you SOOOO much. that's what my u/s looked EXACTLY like. seriously. You've given me some hope :]

Even if you are sure of the day you ovulated it can still take 7-10 days for sperm to meet egg and implant. It's not uncommon to be put back at this stage xx

My first u/s with dd was at 5wks and 3days by o date (used opk's) and she measured 3.7mm a week later she measured 6mm. The growth is sporadic until around 12wks, so try not to worry hon, there is no set rate of growth until the end of the first trimester and until then measurements don't matter as long as there is an increase between scans xx

Hi hun! Just wondering how you were able to get scans so early?

I had a scan at what i thought was 6+2 which showed 2 sacs measuring 3mm each (indicating a 4-5 week pregnancy maximum  ) had another scan 4 days later (6+6) which again showed two sacs, one measuring 5mm and one measuring 7mm with possible early amnion development in both, went back a week after that (7+6) and again two sacs, both had grown but not a lot and there was definitely something in one of them but the sonographer couldn't define it enough to be sure what it was so here we are...waiting another week for another scan to find out if our twin pregnancy is going to work out.

It is such a stressful and nerve-wracking time and the professionals we have dealt with, although all lovely have all varied widely in their opinion of what is happening, the sonographers have been quite positive, saying it's still early days and i might not be as far along as i think, the nurses and Drs have been much less positive (because i have slow rising HCG levels too :( ) so we just have to wait and see.

This thread has helped me to feel a bit more positive though as it sounds like uncertain results from scans are very common at these early stages, and i do believe it is perfectly possible i ov'd late as i wasn't charting etc at all and have only recently come off BCP. The only thing i am sure of though is that i got a positive test on the 9th November so was definitely pregnant already by then!!!!

hi hun, I had 5mm at 6 weeks too. I'm now 11 weeks and all is well. I am having scans every 2 weeks and by 8 weeks it had caught up. Its so small at that stage, their measurements arent always exact. I've had mc too so understand how worried you must be. Take comfort from the scan, you have a uterine pregnancy measuring ok xxxxxxxxx

fx for you, doll <3

I'm 8 weeks today and at 6 weeks they couldn't even find a gestational sac and thought my pregnancy might be ectopic (I got pregnant through IUI so we know my dates are correct) and that even if it wasn't I would miscarry. At 6w2d they saw something in my uterus ruling out an ectopic; they figured it was the start of a gestational sac and said that I was having a missed abortion and told me to come back in a week for a "final" ultrasound to see if I looked like I would miscarry on my own and then they'd give me medication to make me miscarry. So I went back in on Friday at 7w3d and right away there was a heartbeat! My gestatational sac is still really small so I'm still really scared but I just wanted to let you know to not give up!

hi there,

i just posted about this. See my post "for those measuring behind on an early scan"
