Hi all, i was just wondering if any of you knew what this sure start maternity grant was?
Who is entitled to it?
When are you entitled to it?
Does the money go straight to you?
I know what the Health in pregnancy grant is and all that but i heard of this one???
Someone please help un-confuse my little brain! lol. xx

The sure start maternity grant is available from 29 weeks to anyone on benefits and possibly low income, claiming CTC AND WTC. Talk to your MW, she'll know more. You can get an application form from the jobcentre and think your MW needs to sign it. Check out this link https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyT...ort/Expectingorbringingupchildren/DG_10018854 xx

hmmi work part time at the minute but will be givin that up and prob have to sign on ...will i be entitled to it then ...ill prob not stop work til about 8 months?

im sure i can apply for mine at 25 weeks xx

do u have to be on benifits for a certain amount of time though before u can put in for it ? x

If you click the link on my post above it should help you with what you need to know. Im not sure about length of time on benefits, it'll either be 26 weeks prior or it wont matter at all. Sorry cant be more precise xx

It dosnt matter hoe long u have been on benefits u can apply up untill ur lo is 3mnths old it is 500 pounds but u cannot apply untill 29wks the health in pregnancy is 25weeks x

Does anyone now if you can claim it if your partner is working full time?

Not sure but why not apply anyway? As long as you are claiming CTC and/or WTC. Worst that can happen is they say no xx

Hi Hun, I'm need to apply for this and will be asking for the form when I go to the job center tomorrow. I want it early so that i can fill in the parts I need to and then get my mw to fill in what ever sections she needs to when I next see her at 28 weeks and then get it sent off.

I think to be entitled to this money you need to be claiming job seekers allowance. In the back of the pregnancy book we're given at our booking in appointments it gives you a lot of info about benefits and what you can claim at the back, other wise have a look at the direct gov website. However, I think the website is crap and not easy to navigate at all.

Well i've managed to work out that i am not entitled to this grant hehe. But im glad i asked what it was! hehe. xx

you can download and print this form and if i remember rightly ive never had to get my midwife to sign it and this will be the 4th time ive claimed it.has doubled since i last claimed it thou.

It doesn't matter how long you've been on benefits. If your partner works full time or part time you can still receive it, as long as you're receiving JSA, IS, ESA or CTC at a higher rate than the normal family element.
And RHR- your midwife is unlikely to sign it at your 28 week appointment, most won't until you're 29 weeks x

I also think JSA/ESA has to be Income Based and not Contribution based to qualify..

I'm going to try and claim it. Never did before as I assumed we wouldn't be entitled but from what I have read (and it wasn't that easy to understand!) as long as we get child tax credit higher than the basic family element (round about £550) then we are entitled???? I was quite suprised as out annual income is prob in the region of £25000 but we get probably £1500 ctc a year.
