I feel really silly as I've already had a summer baby but I don't remember ever having any issues taking him out, so maybe 2011 was a really cold summer?! Anyway I'm due any day and will have to go out to take my eldest to nursery, and just to stop ourselves going insane in our little flat. But TBH I feel completely unprepared for going out in the heat, so I have a couple of questions.

1) I have the Oyster 2 pram, but without the carrycot. The newborn insert is very padded, will this be way too warm?

2) I was planning on using carriers most of the time like with my first, but this means his head will be exposed. Will he be okay in a carrier when it's this hot? And where on earth can I buy a sunhat suitable for a newborn baby boy/gender neutral?

Thanks! :flower:

I've been using carriers as I don't have a double pushchair. I got my LO's hat from mothercare but most places do fisherman style hats and you can normally get them in cotton with a wide brim.

I managed to find an outfit at George from asda that came with a lightweight baseball style hat which has been ideal for my lo. When i do the play group run on the hottest days Lo has just been wearing a vest, I too have a sling but thoufht - rightly or wrongly - baby being in that tight against me and in the sun might make him too hot. My eldest was also born in 2011 and I know we had hot days but didn't remember having to take him out I do this time

I bought a linen wrap especially for the summer and I put a muslin across my chest so we don't get sweaty when she falls asleep. I think some carriers might be too hot.

I would put a cotton sheet over the fluffy seat and just dress him in a vest with no hat at all as this will make him hotter. Indyead I would use a cannopy and if you don't have one then drape Muslins over the pram to shade him.

It is not a good idea to drape muslins over a pram. It limits ventilation and traps heat. A proper canopy should be used.

Yeah there's a post going round facebook about stuff being draped over a pram and that it makes babies especially new born, can make them feel like there back in the womb and it stops them breathing due to bad ventilation. We went out the other day and I have a new born insert from my pram. Just had ivy in a cotton dress and bought a canopy while we were out and home baryons did some baby sun screen at factor 50 so picked that up while we were out too.
She seemed to do fine.
MW also said an ounce of cooled boiled water in hot weather won't do her any harm

No, just enough to cover the sun from babys face (quarter way) leaves plenty of ventilation -thats if you don't have a sun canopy of course as I agree that is much better.

To the OP- I had to do this with my double pushchair after selling my single pram with canopy included (oops!) so I used a Muslin cloth over newborns hood just enough to block the sun off her face. Had loads of fresh air still coming in. It worked for me and she is 1 now so hey she survived lol good luck hope it all works out which im sure it will :hugs:
