I was told by DWP that the working tax credit I was getting would run on for another 4 weeks after I stop working and they said it would be sent out in a giro cheque....

Has anyone had this and do you remember how long til they send it?

I've got this atm because ive had my last maternity payment there sending me a cheque, although i don't know how long it'll take and why they can't just pay it into my bank.

I thought the same thing! Surely it would be much easier for them to just continue paying it for the 4 weeks after!

Is this because of redundancy or resigning?

If so they did it to me as I got a bit of working tax credit basically your entitlement for working tax credit ends on date you officially are no employed but they give you 4 weeks money and because your 'claim' is nolonger from date employment stops the system doesn't issue it and someone (rather than a computer) approves it and releases a cheque.

Aahh thanks Wobbles, it was from resigning, how long did you wait for yours?

I rang up and cancelled my working tax creds on the 11th may as I was made redundant. I recieved my last payment through the post (cheque) on the 21st May. So it should take about 10 days hun. Hope this helps xxx

Thanks :D I did get a letter from the saying it will be here by end of next week, do you cash it in the bank or post office?

I cashed mine in at the bank. Well, I just paid it in like a cheque with my paying in book. I dunno how long it takes to actually go in. Probably jus like a normal cheque?! Dont know if you would be able to get the money for it on the spot like with a giro. I assume you could. xxx
