how old were your LO's when you changed from size 1 to either size 2 or variflow teats?

blake will be 3 weeks on friday BUT every bottle he seems to be sucking like mad to get milk and the teats go flat.

i cant remember from my other 2

I havent got an answer but just wanted to bum this 4 u hun and im interested too my daughters doin the same thing and taking a lot longer to finish a botlle the past few days.

any advice??

my hv told me to change as soon as she was sucking like mad and gettin fustrated.
Jessica was on the fast flow by 6weeks

thanks. i looked at them in morrisons and medium flow say 3months+, not suitable b4hand. they hadnt got any variflow 1s.

alfie went up to number 2 pretty quickly, i would say a couple of weeks :)

Ignore the ages on the teats. Ruby has always needed a faster flow of milk than she was 'supposed' to have. I think it's why we didn't get on with BF.
You'll know if the teat is too fast, he'll cough and milk will start running down the side of his mouth.

Tyler is 2 weeks and 3 days old and already using a combination of size 2 and 3. Midwife told us to go up to size 2 when he was 3 days old as he wasnt feeding enough with number 1 (he got tired out sucking so hard and would fall asleep). As Mum2b_claire said.. You'll know if the teat is too fast.. But no harm in trying it out and see how he does.

i agree , the ages on the packets are a guide so dont worry about that hun , tyr a faster one and if it is too fast move back...
what i did want to add is that i have only ever had teats going flat when the air vent on them isnt working properly ( all my boots ones did this so moved on to avent , used TT before - both worked perfectly biut boots always went flat as the vents just didnt open while he was drinking right )

I'm wondering about changing teats too. I have Dr Browns bottles, and they say their size 2 teats are for 3 months +, but my LO is only 6 weeks, but he is taking between 30mins and an hour to finish his 5 oz's, I think he's just getting bored of sucking. What do people think?

Try the size 3 teats and see how he gets on. I don't think he's old enough to be bored of sucking, but it's probably tiring for him.

He's only on size 1 teats at the moment (having re-read my post its not clear what size!) so should I go to size 2?

I changed to Variflow at about 4months and still use them. For me using those it's one thing less to worry about.

Ah i'm exactly same - my baby 5weeks & on bottles using teats 1 & 2 but seems to be taking ages to suck a feed, falling asleep 1/2 way thru like she's gettin fed up of sucking n not getting enough! Health visitor said to get teat3

I agree about trying a new teat size and ignoring the guidelines on age ranges!
Toby was on size 2 TT teats (3m+) but 5 weeks old! then around 11 weeks we changed him to Dr Brown's bottles and he had to have size 3 (6m+)!!! He is now finding these too slow so we are hoping the Dr Brown's size 4 work ok, otherwise its back to TT or Avent bottles and bad wind for us! LOL
xxx

I would go for the vari flow teat first.. and then if still sucking like mad then try size 2 teats. We have never used the slow teat unless having water. We have always used the vari flow.

We didn't consider Harry's age... we just changed from stage 1 to stage 2 when he had been sucking the bottle to death and was almost giving up. We tried him with the stage 2 and he was much happier. We're on stage 3 now.

i went and got ariflow teats (wrong 1s for my tomee tippee bottles!!! LOL!) so i went and got wide neck bottles as cheaper than changing teats.

BUT blake cant get anything out of them. now totally stuck as to what to do - size 1/slow he sucks and flatens, varioflow he cant get aything and size 2 he dribbles the milk as he sucks (meaning too fast for him).

any ideas please?

stick with size two for a little longer... It takes time for them to adjust to a different teat. Took Isobel 3 days to adjust without spillage.
