Started induction on a Thursday, had propess pessary, it did nothing, second pessary 24 hours later, contracted for 21 hiurs, irregular but painful, no change in cervix though, third pessary fell out and I refused any more pessaries, in my mind they were doing nothing, dr suggested a section which I was fine with at this point, three days in, consultant refused, wanted to try pessary again wouldn't even consider the gel! Instead she managed to break my waters even though I was less than 1cm and cervix was still 2cm long, drip started four hours later and started contracting immediately, after a couple of hours contractions were regular and by 9 ish I was ready fir has and air, vaginal exam showed I was still only 1cm and no change in cervix length, babies heart rate was speeding up to 200 or down to 90 (sometimes 80) with every contraction. By 11:10 I was being run down corridor to theatre fir emergency section, instead if wiping me down with the iodine solution nicely they poured a pot if it over me and just wiped it around, anaesthetist was amazing got spinal done really quick and baby was born 11:30 pm four days after starting induction!
Prepare for it to be a long process if the cervix is unfavourable, wish if known exactly how long it could take.
Also no matter how bad it is at the end if it all you will have your baby and that's the most important thing, my induction was easily the worst thing I've ever experienced but my son makes up for it all and millions more and the pain and memory fades quickly my son is only 11 days old and I'd be willing to go through it again, I already can't wait for number two!
