Hey ladies, hope you are well good.

Just a quickie......

... DH has his 2nd SA in 10 days (and counting) but due to the last one the DRs have already touched on us going down the route of ICSI IVF

I have had my day 5 and 21 bloods done, all came back fine. Just wondered what other tests i would need to have done? We are both at different DRs and i know if i speak to mine she would probably get the ball rolling and refer me for other tests if i will need them :argh:

DH has already been told that if his count is still low he will be referred to a urologist but the DRs haven't been too great with explanations and i hate being in limbo! I'd rather have a rough idea of what the next 6 months will bring than playing it by ear.

Can anyone help at all?? His last count was 1.5 million hence them thinking it would be a referral to urologist.

Ta in advance x:hug:

Hi

I didn't have anything major done other than what went with the ICSI once they'd decided that was the route for us. So no HSG or laparscopy or anything like that. We had blood tests and swabs for STIs. I think I had one or two of those internal scans.

It all happened reasonably quickly, I think, we had the results of DH's last SA April time and were in with the ICSI consultant having our first chat May time.

What are you hoping for in terms of next step for you both?

Helen

I had the last of my blood tests today - hopefully. It was just to confirm i am rubella immune. Might not be a bad idea to get that checked while waiting for other hospital tests. Hope your DH has better results from his next SA.

Apart from basic bloods, I didn't have anything done until we saw FS. I then had to get scans, lap, more bloods etc. Every FS is different, some won't do more tests and some will.

Good luck xx

I think FJL is right, clinics vary in what they want tests ways. We did IVF abroad so it was really a pain to get all the tests done before we left. Also the tests should be the same no matter what type of IVF treatment it is (e.g. with or without ICSI, etc). Chances are that since you -like us- would be doing IVF for Male Factor the tests would be less invasive and they would be more flexible on performing exploratory non-mandatory internal examinations on you.

When would you be having your first go?

Thanks ladies

Well DH has his second SA on 10th Sep so results will be in 48 hours later. He has been such a star and has made so many big changes - not drinking at all is the biggest one for him and i don't think i've ever seen him eat so much fresh fruit!

I know that in all likelihood we will be referred to a urologist by the end of this month and then i'm guessing they will do further tests on DH and then he will have a third SA?? 3 months will be up end of November - by then the drugs he was on will be out of his sytem too.

I know it varies but how long do you reckon it will take? We are so clueless as to what is in store for him and googling on the web doesn't really tell you a huge amount. Any ideas what he has in store for him and how long (roughly) it will take?

We have spoken about NHS/Private and have decided to go for it straight away rather than waiting and saving?

Helen - what sort of things did your DH have to go through/time wise? Love the pics of your boys - double trouble would be okay by me!!

FJL - see i need you to stay on the site because of your invaluable help!!

MissAma - what has the process been like for you and your OH?

I will stick around just to answer these questions :hugs:

Time lines are very different over here, but for us, DH had 2 further sperm tests done at the IVF clinic.

Tell your DH that he might have something to look forward to, as the 'collection' room at our clinic involves porn with several channels, a bar fridge with lots of different drinks, a beanbag and a recliner

So basically he goes and gives his sample, a week for results in our case. They'll check for heaps more stuff like DNA damage, abnormalities, anti sperm antibodies, as well as all the normal stuff that they test in general SA's. So tell DH not to worry too much, because its the same as a normal SA only they check for lots more things.

The only other thing my DH had to do was bloods to check for STD's and things.

Ooooh DH will be thrilled! recliner, fridge AND porn! what more could he ask for!! Friends of mine have twin boys after 2 cycles of IVF (she's from Oz too!) and he said it was political correctness gone mad... they had every single type of mag and video going!!:rofl:

P.S - you have made me feel soooooo popular sticking around just to answer my questions!! I hope Australia is lovely at the moment - we were there in Jan for our honeymoon and now DH wants to emigrate! I think it was all the beer and BBQs that did it! :happydance:

DEFINITELY every type of video...for DH's last sperm test he turned on the telly and it was gay porn (man on man action that is) I found this especially funny since DH is pretty homophobic

I was wondering what took him so long in there, he said that he didn't think he was ever going to be able to go!!!

Yeah i think my other half might have done a runner after that!!

 I don't think it was that extensive when DH did his sample. A few mags I think. He took in some reading material from the web. I think you might find that the UK isn't quite as thoughtful as Auz in that respect!

Our experience for DH was much the same as for FJL's DH. Not much to do really except do his sample on the day and some STI tests. I seem to remember he had to have that chlamidia test which he describes as a cotton bud down the end of his lil fella. The hospital where we had the STI testing sent the results direct to the hospital where we were having the IVF (all to do with PCTs sigh).
