I liked Christian. He was a nice character to fantasize about, lol. This isn't like Pride and Prejudice or something, lol.

I have a honours degree in English literature. I have read near enough all the 'great literary books' I can assure you I have enjoyed at least 50% a whole lot less than I enjoyed 50 shades.

I think people should enjoy it for what it is. Enjoyable easy reading.


I think all this about it being porn and degrading to women is non-sense. If it was it would be the majority
Some time I wanted to slap Anna and sometimes Christian. There were points where they were pathetic and shallow characters. Did it matter that much? Nahhh The story lines were captivating. The characters were in the main interesting and witty

I'm determined to go back to book two at some point, probably when I'm BF Squishy in the wee hours of the morning and need something to occupy my mind. Book one did drive me a bit mad as it was so repetitive, with all the references to Icarus flying too close to the sun etc, BUT I don't really want to form too much of an opinion of it til I've read the other two and book one was ok in some sense. It certainly opened my eyes lol, I never knew people could have sex THAT good

I think Ana is so annoying. and yes he is wayyyy too controlling.

I've all three books and found them a bit boring really.

The first was good for a bit of a giggle but the sex scenes just got really boring really quickly. Same thing over and over again. "Christian walks into the room, Ana comes, Christian takes a step forward, Ana comes again yada yada"

The story line for me just got really soppy one side and just plain idiotic on the other side. I found Ana a pathetic character.

And the biting of the bottom lip, this does not work on men. I tried and all that happened was my DH asked if I was ok. Major fail!

All that inner goddess/subconscious stuff was bloody irritating, as was the fact that she orgasmed at the drop of a hat. As if all you have to do to come is bite your lip and boing around on a willy for ten seconds

I read the books and dislike Christian so much. He is controlling and certain things he did just reminded me of my controlling ex who made my life a misery. No thank you.

Because she wasn't a real "submissive," Christian does appear very controlling, but in a dom/sub relationship, that's how a dom is. He wasn't used to a submissive with a mind of her own.

Aside from that, the whole writing style is crap.

Yes I understand that is how sub/doms work but I would have thought that was just in the bedroom, he was controlling in other aspects in her life. I'd really hate for a young woman to read a book like this and think its acceptable to be controlled by a man. Christian reminds me of an ex so he doesn't do it for me lol.

Not trying to justify it, but I think again it's because he wasn't used to having a submissive that wasn't a submissive. He wanted to protect her. But it's still a load of crap.

agre with ozzieshunni...if you only have ever had a dom/sub relationship then what we see a 'normal' relationship would be completly weird.

i know a couple who have a dom/sub relationship and he does have control over everything she does. but i have also seen it where it the woman who is the dom.

but regardless...shite book.

I actually enjoyed the books, got way too bored of the sexual content though, how repetitive & unrealistic!! -.-
