The great British class calculator on bbc website

Established middle class as I would have expected.
My parents are Elite.

Emergent service workers, yet my parents are elite (I thought they'd be established middle class).

I'm emergent service worker yet if I say I own my own home I jump up to established middle class!

Haha I got elite. Not sure why? Think it's because we both have pensions and all our friends have fancy jobs.

I was suprised by the description, as it didn't ask about education, but I did go to a red brick university.

Elite

This is the wealthiest and most privileged group in the UK. According to the Great British Class Survey results, lots of people in this group:

Enjoy high cultural activities such as visiting museums and listening to classical music
Went to private school and elite universities
Socialise with people who do a wide variety of jobs

It's not all about money as the wedge for income capital for me wasn't very large as we rent. But cultural capital was high as I spend a lot of time going to museums and stately homes etc

I don't get how they do this? I chose many of the 'posh' social activities and knew pretty much everyone on their list of jobs. Perhaps I am a precariat because I know a farm worker and use Facebook?

My parents are apparently established middle class, and I see them as really quite well off with a large house and savings as well as owning a business, so it makes me wonder how it figures it out if you rent?!

Precariat.
I'm assuming the fact that I currently rent and have a very low income because I'm a student didn't help me out there.

Technical middle class

If we put in likely future circumstances we jump to Elite -- craziness!

I think it just pulls it out of a hat!

It poses an interesting question as to what relevance the class system has to today's society. Most of the questions to me were not explicitly class signifiers. Someone already commented on how they go to museums because it's a cheap or free activity, though I'm sure it would classify as a cultural activity and therefore higher ranking than say going to the park. On the opposite end of the spectrum financial wealth does not always denote a middle or higher class lifestyle in regard to cultural or social terms. I think it's all a bit on a nonsense to be honest and it certainly isn't something you can predict in around 10 questions!

I prefer to categorise people into three groups, those I like, those I tolerate and people with nobs for eyes. Works well enough for me! :)

We got elite:shrug: But in San Diego it doesnt go as far:dohh:

I got Established middle class, DH got elite! He's loving that as you can imagine. :dohh:

If I put that I listen to hip hop I become an Emergent Service Worker
