Hi all

I have loved the name Ivy for many years I know its increasing in popularity now but that aside when I found out I was pregnant with #2 I said If its a girl its Ivy because I love the name :cloud9:

However I was not expecting everyone to be SO negative about it they have put me off so much I even started to dislike it myself

So Iv been looking up LOTS of names and there are some I really really like that are very beautiful But I can't set myself on any of them

Now Im wondering If I should just go back to Ivy and hope I fall in love with it again.

Its so frustrating that iv let people put me off

so what do you's think on Ivy and has anyone been giving you tons of negativity on your choices?>

I think it is a really pretty name, but you are right. It is becoming very popular now. I know of 3 Ivy's born in the last 6 months. I haven't told any of my family or friends my name choices because I too think other people would put me off with comments. If you like old names, how about Ayda or Iris? I really love Ayda but my OH doesn't x

I was thinking the other way. this is a nice way too x

It's Robbie Williams wife's name, thats where I started to like it. Her name is Ayda Field x

I like ivy. The exact same thing happened to me. I had sienna picked out for ages, then got so much negative feedback I went off it. Spent months looking for a name but eventhough I found some beautiful they didn't feel right. So I'm back onto sienna :)

My sister also let everyone put her off the name Christopher which she had picked out years ago, she ended up naming her baby Thomas and now he is 1 and she thinks he looks like a Christopher and regrets not using it.

Ivy is a fantastic name!

And yes, my MIL has been a total pain in my ass. She either doesn't like the first name, or doesn't like the middle name. DH and I have decided that we will no longer be sharing our names with family until after she is born.

Ivy is a gorgeous name. I saw another PP mention Iris, which is lovely as well.

I got grief when I told people Asher's name before he was born (it was less common when he was born) so this time we're not telling anyone our name choice until baby is born.

I refuse to let my opinion be swayed.

I'm a big believer in going with the name that means something to you. If you love Ivy, go for it. I've never known anyone by the name. When people say they know a certain number of them, are they referring to in person or on this site? Becuase I see plenty of names mentioned on sight that I never come across in real life (Ivy being one of them.)

PS. Another way of spelling "Ayda" is Ida. It looks more similar to Ivy and I've only known one person with the name and they're a teenager now :)

LOVE LOVE LOVE Ivy. It's lovely and whoever is being negative about it is totally wrong, IMO. It's one of the names we've been considering for our little girl. We like Ivy, Raina, Myla, Aria and Nova. But stick with your first love! Our first love was Aria but we can't use it and I'm a little heartbroken over it, but we've found some nice alternatives and hopefully one feels right by the time she comes.

If my :yellow: bump is :pink:, she will be named Evelyn Ivy and we will call her by her middle name. The only complaint I've gotten about Ivy is "it doesn't nickname well." Who the hell cares? You really need to make a nickname out of a three-letter name? Yeesh.

I don't know how popular it is in your part of the world. In the US it is climbing in popularity, having jumped from #267 to #187 between 2011 and 2012, but is still pretty far down the chart. People may be shifting towards it as an alternative to the more-trendy flora name "Lily."

I wouldn't give up on the name just because other people hate it. DD #1 is "Harley" and most of our relatives hated that when we picked it. Now they can't see her as anything else.

Ivy is lovely, yes its becoming more popular, but by no means is it a 'popular' name yet as far as I know, ie: in the top 10.

I wouldn't let people put you off, its your baby to name not theirs.

I LOVE Ivy, it's so pretty and classic yet different. I don't think it's too popular in the UK, have you tried looking at the national stats for top 100 baby names last year? I don't think it was on it. It's certainly nowhere near as popular as Lily or Poppy for example.

I also adore the name Iris, gorgeous! xx

thanks ladies googled top 100 baby names in the UK And Ivy was only 88 :) Lilly is pretty but sooo popular I can see why though. Thanks for your support all :flower:

I think it's beautiful. Don't let people put you off if you love it! I'm in a similar situation with a name that's increasing in popularity, but I'm just not sharing it and I'm going for it anyway. Screw 'em. :haha:

Ivy is very pretty.

Forget everyone else. This is why I hate sharing names with people before the LO is born.
