Yes milk is still important but as you introduce solids it's natural for the intake to start dropping. I tried restricting Fran's solid intake in the hope that as she got more hungry she would take more milk instead but it didn't work. She actually started taking a little more once I let her eat as much as she wanted.
I started her on yoghurts at 5 months and cheese a couple of weeks later because her milk intake went down and dairy counts towards the milk intake - my hv said this was ok.
But to be fair Fran's milk intake had already started to drop before we started weaning and she took to solids so well that we just pushed on and went into it full force - she has been on 3 meals a day since 5 months old and until the last couple of days would finish a 7m+ jar plus pudding for dinner and a bit less for lunch.
I don't blame you for taking it more steady with Rory if he is still taking a healthy amount of milk.
