So we started lo on nutrimigen today as he has been diagnosed with a cows milk allergy but as the hv said he doesnt like it! He made a discussed face then stopped sucking and as my husband didnt take the bottle out of his mouth he choked on it and threw up the ounce or so he drank then i tred and he did drink some but kept stopping and making the face but i took the bottle out when he stopped and then tried again! He had about 4oz of his 7oz bottle then just wouldnt take anymore! Also it took about an hour to drink that small amount.

Im thinking of changing the teats back to the number ones from the number twos so if he stops drinking it wont come out by itself so he wont choke so much (hopefully!) but im worried that could make him take even longer to drink it and it says use within an hour then throw it away!

Im making sure i give it to him when hes hungry so then he might just take it to fill him up even tho he doesnt like it.

Im wondering if i should try doing one bottle of his normal milk then the next bottle give his new milk the next time then gradually give more of the new one until hes used to it then stop the normal milk all together but could this make him sick mixing the 2 different milks?

Any tips would be great xxxx

I would try mixing it with his usual milk (50:50) and then slowly changing the ratio over a week or two so that he doesn't realise the transition?!?!?

I'm no expert as Maddie won't take her Neocate - she's been BF til now and we don't know if its the milk or the delivery device ;) But we've taken to hiding it in her Weetabix and a few of her meals but I realise your LO is too young for that...

Good Luck!!

My paediatrician suggested adding a spoonful of nesquick banana milkshake powder to LO's bottles to get them to take the nutramigen, my LO hated it too.

I was also going to suggest the mixing of Nutramigen and the regular milk.

It's horrible stuff! Try just adding a scoop of it to usual milk, then 2 scoops etc, or we were told to try vanilla essence in it (has to be the essence though, some contain alcohol)

We had a nightmare with it, my lo was combi fed, she literally wouldn't touch the stuff so I had to hire a hospital grade pump to increase my supply! Luckily after me going dairy free it didn't make a difference so she could be topped up with hipp again.

Good luck xx

I like the idea of adding a flavour to it but is it ok to do that? My lo is only 14 weeks old i dont want to give him anything that could upset his little tummy!
I might phone my hv and see if its ok to mix the milk either in the same bottle or 1 bottle of new milk then one of normal and if i can add ant flavour to it!

Thanks for the advice ladies but ive just continued with just giving the bottles as they are and the second one he still made the face and stopped and started and it took an hour to get the bottle in him but by the 3rd he was fine but was sick quite a bit after and hes just had his 4th bottle and took it fine and even fell asleep so yay it seems hes taken to the new nutrimgen quite well! :)

My lg's dietician advised to mix the 2 together as the taste is vile! but they do get used to it. I mixed 1oz Neocate (similar to Nutramigen) and 5 parts old milk and gradually upped it by an oz every 2 days untill she was completely on it. She loves the taste now!- :haha:

Hes taking it fine now but im wondering when i will see any improvement in his symptoms which are:
Breathing wheezy and cry sonetimes hoarse
bad eczema everywhere
constant eye rubbing and poor weight gain (well none at all this weekl!)

Also hes a bit sicky atm its still just dribbing rather than actually throwing up but its more than before the milk change! Is it just him getting used to the new milk or something else?

Hes been grumpy since being on it too i dont know if its just cos hes been refusing to nap a lot in the day or if its the milk! Anyones lo get grumpy on the milk?

My DS did the same, he puked it up and stopped eating completely after a full day of it. Is there not an alternative? Here in the states I switched him to Enfamil Geantlease which is just the same is Nutrimigen. He liked it a lot more and has done fine.

Maybe ask your doc if there is another formula you can try?

My lo wont even suck on it, she just lets it run out of her mouth . (and over her face) She as lost weight recently(from7,4kg at 3,5 m to 6.9kg at 5m. luckily she was a chubby 97%+ baby(still lengths wise) she didt get weighed between that so it is a surprise. I think although being bf often she doesnt get enough fluids either as today she had 2 acidic smelling nappies. It's bank holiday today so I just might go to the ped hospital she was at monday where she got the prick test. She got given neocate which smells like raw potatoes to me
