How many of you have suffered from depression before being diagnosed with PCOS without knowing the cause of The depression?

Or how many of you have just been depressed with PCOS for various reasons?

Have your doctors given you an option for an anti depression pill?

I have a history of depression. My depression started at 17, fell pregnant with my healthy daughter at 20 and was diagnosed with depression at 21 and PCOS at 24 ( even though I had symptoms of it from immediately after my daughter was born)

Most of the time I am OK now but if I go through a rough time I go back on my anti depressants for about 3 months before weaning off them again. I was given Fluoxetine (which I believe is prozac in the US). I was told by my GP that if I was to get pregnant whilst on my anti depressants, we would try to wean me off them, but that the most important thing would be to figure out what was a smaller risk: taking the anti depressants or dealing with depression - thats the kind of thing that would have to be done on a case by case basis. But she said even if I needed my anti depressants during a pregnancy, we would try to get me on the lowest possible dose.

I hope this helps :) I would definitely say that if you feel you are depressed, get help. I have been depressed and pregnant before and it is not easy. I was suicidal 80% of the time and by the time my daughter was 6 months old it was a case of going on medication or...well. a much less happy ending! The hormones really mess with an already existing problem.

but there is help :) and things do get better.

good luck :flower:

I have suffered with depression since childhood. I have never been on antidepressants but have had them offered. I believe I've always had signs of pcos since I was a preteen. Recieved positive dx at 22.

Our bodies are very intricate so it is likely one imbalance in the body can trigger more.

I too have had depression since childhood. Like Krissie, I also believe I had signs of PCOS since puberty. I've only been on anti-depressants at one point in my life for roughly a 6 month period, but it wasn't until I was 24 and after I experienced the unexpected death of a friend which triggered a bad relapse. I was Dx'd with PCOS this year, and I whole-heartedly feel my depression is directly linked to my PCOS.

Thank you for your replies ladies
