I've been advised to try nipple stimulation to get things moving as I'm overdue, and the breast pump was suggested.

I got this in a big Tommee Tippee feeding set I bought, and I just can't get it to work!! It's manual ffs, it should NOT be hard!!

First of all it makes an infuriated squeaking/quacking noise if I press the handle down, and it seems like things don't fit together? I thought "okay, it must need suction for the handle to be able to come back outwards again" so I tried it on the breast, and there was NO suction (after much moving and re-adjusting) and then the friggin handle flew off when I was trying to pull it back! :dohh: Even if I'm holding it tightly onto my breast it still friggin quacks and the handle still flies off unless I'm holding the top down. It just seems like it's either cheaply made and parts don't fit together, or that I'm stupid and doing something wrong?? Or that with my stupid giant pre-preg 32GGs I won't be able to pump considering my breast spills over the entire frigging thing??

Help!!

I had this problem with my tommee tippee pump i had with my youngest, think they are badly made. :(

xx

I had a TT pump with my first DD, never EVER again, they are horrible things :(

Oh crap.. I liked the idea of being able to pump straight into the bottle/storage pots though, as if I bought another one wouldn't I not be able to? Is the electric one any good? I fnot which one should I be going for? (sorry for all the questions.. But I'm just about ready to throw it across the room and cry!!)

I was reading reviews on the tommee tippee manual pump yesterday because I was going to get one, most of them say it doesnt work and women with large breasts found it more difficult to use. X

I've been told the medela swing breast pumps are the best but they aren't cheap x

I've got a TT manual pump as well- on offer at Tesco baby event. Tried it out (one squeeze) when I was back in first tri and I seemed to be able to get suction. I've since been told the Medela are the best ones to get but as I'm only expressing for occasional feeds, not sure whether its worth getting it.

Do you have to use the pump? Why not just use your hands? After all, you're not trying to express loads of milk, you are just doing it to get things going?

I can't seem to get the hang of it with my hands.. :( plus I do want to express when baby comes as I'm not comfortable BFing infront of people, but as I don't know how often I'll be expressing (or even if I can breastfeed at all) then I am reluctant to spend a lot of money.. :(

i got a free manual pump from nuby. i dont mind too much if it doesnt work cos i am getting an electric one off my neighbour which i will buy next month. but also cos this was a freebie. i am thinking though, it might be an idea now to test it out just to see if it works after reading this. i was going to keep it all nice and pristeen in its box till baby is born but maybe that would be a silly idea

i wont to bye a breast pump so would be nice nowing which one you ladies think is the best as i am nervous to be useing one. xx

ive got one and have used it twice now to try to stimulate my stubborn baby into makeing an appearence, but to no avail hmmmf!! i know this sounds obviouse but have you screwed the bottle on the the borttom so you can then create the vacuum effect, erm i dint the first time as thick as i am lol and wondered why no suction was hapenin!! mine deffo works tho only a small amount of sticky fluid came out,by this effect i'm assumeing mine works!
make sure your nipple is visible in the opening and press the rest firmly on your breast!

Medela swing pumps are brill, I have 1, after being lucky enough to product test pumps when my youngest was wee, and then getting to keep it, you can buy them on ebay too, and buy a replacement parts kit from amazon with a new cup bit that goes over your breast etc.

xx

Yeah I screwed a bottle in and made side it was pressed firmly down but still nothing :( I tried moving it around into different positions and made sure my nipple was in the right place but still, to no avail :( Then the handle came off, ragh!

Medela swing is looking like the one to go for if I get an electric, but once again I'm concerned about money.. Has anyone tried the manual Medela pumps?

I had a manual pump with my first and ended up with repetitive strain in my wrist from using it as as baby gets bigger you need to pump for longer. Mothercare and Boots both have sales on at the mo on breast pumps, I've got the Medula swing, which is one of the best apparently, it's £60 so expensive but not as bad as if I was to get repetative strain again...nightmare!

Just looked online and it's not on sale in either.. :( In Mothercare it's on a 3 for 2 offer but that's it

It's the shittest pump I've ever ever used, it was in the bin within a week

The mini medela electric is good, I used it for exclusively expressing for 15 weeks so I imagine it'd be good for part time use? I have a swing now.
