I had my weekly ultrasound today. So last week the fluid measured at 23.1, I've heard different things like above 20 is high or above 25 is high, so basically its on the high side of normal. This week it was at 16, but apparently they just measure four side pockets and the tech saw 10 cm of fluid in the front but they can't measure that so it could be as high at 26cm.

The fear is that I'm more likely to have my water break (early) and it'll be a LOT since there is so much fluid and sometimes the cord can come down with it (very bad). Also, she said bigger babies have bigger placentas and have more fluid excreted so that could be it as well. Also measuring at 38 weeks (due to fluid).

So I guess they just keep an eye on it. Oh yeah, she also said that if there is more fluid the baby moves around easier and can more easily entangle themselves in the cord.

So today, as we are finishing up she says so hopefully you make it to 36 weeks. WHAT? that's 2 weeks away? :saywhat:

Has anyone else experienced high fluid like this?

I think navarababe had a lot fo fluid.

I'm measuring the same ahead as you so I am hoping mine is fluid and not giant baby!

(I am making my sure my bags are all packed!)

I’m also measuring about 3 weeks bigger because of access fluid and a big baby, s/he is weighing in at approximately 1lb bigger than average already – yikes!! I’m not sure what happens when you have more fluid but I do have to go see a specialist tomorrow to see how closely I’ll be monitored going forward. Hopefully they’ll explain more then.

Good luck hun!!

Hi.. I had this for my first baby!! My fluids were high the whole pregnancy and I had to see a specialist.. They just kept an eye on it. Anyway, everything you said is true. My son weighed in at 8 1/2 lbs. and my waters broke 3 weeks early. He was a big baby and that is why he had so much fluid around him. He came out very healthy and chubby.. Good luck!!

I haven't experienced too much fluid hun but I have had too little.

One week was 'concerned low' so I had to go back the next week.. Then it was only 'low' and a scan a couple of weeks later showed the fluid level as back at 'normal'.

Try not to worry as I'm living proof it can change on a weekly basis
It just means that they'll probably give you lots more scans which means lots more chances to see baby xxx

I carried twice the amount of water on my second - I was huge and he weighed 9lb 8. It was a massive gush mind you when they broke my waters!! I was induced 2 weeks late so although there was lots of water , he never came early. Good luck

I had excess fluid with second son and was huge.
He had to be induced though,so uncomfortable.

Thanks ladies, so sounds like he is gonna be a big one and also I might should prepare for an earlier delivery?

I was hoping for a 7lb'er but by this sounds like i might be cooking a whopper :dohh:
Any of you ladies with lots of water had bigger weight increases than you thought you would? I mwean water weighs heavy!

I did some reading in my book and they can symphon off fluid, but I think this would be last resort and maybe if soemone was measuring more than we are. I'm scared that by 36 weeks I'll be ready to pop if I am measuring 40 weeks - would the baby be ok?

My doctor told me they would only take some of the fluid out thru a needle if the fluid increased up to 30 or 35. Just make sure you know what your doctor's plans are!

I had high fluid but they only noticed it at 41 week scan when i was overdue. they woman doing the scan freaked me out saying 'oh no, they will prob induce u today so' then i see doc after and he said no u can wait a few more days till 42 weeks. i had a horrible weekend worrying as it is called polyhydra something (sorry not sure, but at least now u wont google it!!) i googled it and got so scared. my baby was born perfect thank god. only issue is that the cord can get pushed down as well and possibly strangle the baby but once ur aware of this they will take good care and u go with ur instincts. good luck and dont worry too much.

I was also thinking that I’d have a small baby but if s/he keeps growing at this rate I better get ready for a big one, lol. The baby was measuring almost 1 lb bigger than average at 30 weeks – yikes. I still think that I’ll have a small but tall baby:)

I had an appointment with a specialist yesterday and he said that they don’t start to get concerned until you measure 25 and even more concerned until 30. Right now I’m measuring 23 so I have to go back next week for another ultrasound. We didn’t talk much about what would happen if my levels increase to 25-30 and I’m not going to google it, lol. I do think knowledge is power but google can be scary.

I wouldn’t worry about it just it if I were you hun, I’m not worrying. If there was something to worry about your Dr would have said something.

oh yeh and my baby was 11lb 2oz so thats why he had so much fluid so cud just mean u got a big baby in there!!
