Traditional weaning V BLW

You know what bugs me is the term 'baby led weaning' i hate it almost as much as 'midwife led birthing' and my hubby hates 'latching on'

I wonder which method our babies would pick if they could choose? I bet they wouldn't care really as long as they are getting something yummy to eat :)

Otter got to choose -- and he chose BLWing. I don't think every baby would choose the same, but that is what Otter did.

I've never heard the term midwife led birthing!!! Now that riles me - what the f did they do- i did the pushing

As opposed to consultant led I guess. I was definitely 'led' by my midwife while I was giving birth, and thank goodness for that :)

Same with BLW - Ruby leads me. She refuses to be fed anyway, she hates anything being put into her mouth by us.

But we all have terms we find annoying - for me it's 'Full time mum'. What other type of mum is there??

^^ OMG! So true! Yeah, I work full time - but I am a mum full time, too!

me too... it really kind of burns when I see the full-time mom comments. It hurts because I dont have a choice right now and im jealous that some mothers have the luxury of staying home. Dont get me wrong, im happy for mothers who have that luxury, I just hate having it rubbed in my face like im a bad person because I have to work!

:hugs:

I agree, I am going to be a SAHM (some may find that term annoying!) but we are all full time parents!! as for working I am so very grateful and consider myself very lucky to be able to stay home and look after M it must be the hardest thing in the world to have to go to work if you want to be home :(

to get back on topic I have just noticed that there is a blw support sticky thread but no traditional weaning support thread?

of course there isnt any TW sticky.

I work part time...I don't mind SAHM mums (I envy them!) ...so long as they are funding themselves....rather than being funded by the tax payer!

someone I know brags about being 'able' to stay at home with their baby...but its only because she gets loads of benefits!! MY OH earns too much to get any more than we do now even if I didn't work, and my part time earnings pay for the house..so cant really drop them, and we don't want to sacrifice our lifestyle.

Unfortunately my hubby will be 'funding' me as we can't claim any benefits! I have worked all my life and paid into the system so I find it a bit annoying that I can't claim anything really!

well that's what I mean...the OHs fund the SAHM!!
I'm the same, worked all my life...dont get much in exchange.

luckily when I dropped to SMP we were allowed £80 a month, but that drops to £40 in 7 wks..better than nowt, but cant give up work for £40 lol

Don't shoot me down here but I'm guessing there isn't a TW sticky because the general weaning forum is more geared towards TW? Someone requested the BLW sticky which has been great because there's not too much info out there on it but I can't see why admin wouldn't allow a TW sticky if you wanted it.

If there was a sticky for both BLW and TW what would the rest of that area be for lol

I think TW is the 'norm' so most of this part of the forum is geared to it, as Lu says.

Lisa I reckon a lot of mums are actually better off on benefits sadly, so I can't really blame them for choosing that option. I am going back part time, because I have to, for the sake of £7 a week after childcare and train fares and that's with me havng a pretty well paid job :(

I agree many are better off....which is mad in its self...how can anyone be better off not working..this country is backwards!

It's not just the UK it is Canada also!

I would certainly be better off on assistance, while I work until I get a good job I will be "the working poor".

I find it interesting to read this thread at this point, because the vote is split exactly: 24 BLW, 24 TW.

I found this thread really interesting. I really want to do BLW but am really worried that it won't get a very good reaction so it's really good to see that BLW isn't that behind TW in the vote!

I really don't think there should be a "divide" in BLW/TW as much as I don't understand the BF/FF divide - the only person that should have a say on how they feed their own child is their parents - no one else really has a right to get involved - the only time I would say otherwise is if the parent was doing something dangerous such as giving the newborn baby cows milk or something like that - otherwise, surely we should all support each other whatever the choice and that means BLWers supporting TWers and vice versa - I have seen negative comments from both "camps" in this thread, which is a shame!

anyway that's my 2p worth!

EDIT: by the time I read all these posts and then typed my reply, the votes have altered and BLW is in front - just - so I guess it shows that they are both popular choices nowadays! :) x
