Tragedy! 20 children and 6 adults killed in a school shooting in CT. I'm devastated!

This story is so sad. I cant imagine what the children and staff must have been thinking when it was going on :nope: You send your children to school were they should be safe and the staff go to work to be safe also.

Im so scared to let Freya go to any school.

This maybe a dumb question but how come it happens in America and not in England :flower:

It happened in Scotland about 15 years ago too, infact it has happened in a lot of countries.

I'm all for the right to bear arms, but having access to an automatic weapon like this is absurd. It is our constitutional right to own a gun, but not a weapon like this. No one in their right (or wrong) mind needs to carry an automatic weapon. As aforementioned, if you take away the guns from law-abiding citizens, then then they have no way to protect themselves from those who acquire them illegally.

If you're going to have a gun, then lock it up properly. It's as simple as that. If the shooter was unstable, then how the heck did he get the gun in the first place? And if his mother was aware of his instability, then why did she not lock it up?

Things like this didn't happen 50 years ago, and we had guns then.

But that's the thing! All of the guns he had were legal and registered in his mothers name. I'm sorry, but they are killing machines!! Legal guns just killed 20 small children!! Oh I'm not even going to get into it. But I can tell you one thing for certain, my children will never step foot in a public school! This is just one of the many many reasons more and more parents are homeschooling! Keep your babies close ladies. Hug them like this is your last day.

I pray and hurt so badly for what this horrible monster did to these little angels, their teachers, and the families and friends left to pick up the pieces.

tbh, you cant blame the mother. We dont know this family. Maybe her guns were locked up.

I'm not blaming the mother at all. I'm just wondering how he had access to these guns, especially if his mental instability was known.

Thats all speculation though. :( There is no solid reason. I dont think we will understand what makes people do what they do. Sometimes evil is just that.

They've released pictures of two of the children :(

I cant look, its heartbreaking. I am lighting my candles tonight for the angels.

its incredibly sad - but i think that if a person was set on doing something they would find the means to get hold of what they need to do so - pre-meditated anyway.

when i was in school in a small town in england all the children age 7-11 including me - were all playing out in a school field on a summers day and a man came to the school fence (the fence only being about 5ft high he could of jumped over) aiming a gun at us - all i remember is the teachers and passers by shouting to lay down - so we all laid flat on the ground and were told to keep our heads down - i remember looking up at him shouting and waving the gun around in an absolute rage apart from that i cant remember much else and no one thankfully was hurt but it happened here in this country- no one can ever be sure who will be capable of such a thing - schools need to tighten up security- its very scary - especially now the media is used so much more who knows what ideas it put's in to other mentally unstable peoples heads.

RIP to all the children and teachers x

Yes but you have a responsibility not just as a gun owner but as a mother to make absolutely certain that if there are weapons in the house that they are a 100% secured! If the son had a mental problem then all the more reason to make sure he hasn't got access to them! I don't blame the parents for his actions, but they do still have to be accountable for having these types of weapons in their home legal or not. I hate guns but I hate it when people also try to just blame the guns, there needs to be accountability on the gun owners part.

M heart is breaking over this :(
R.I.P to all the adults and children

well didnt he shot her first, so infact she may have made them secure but he managed to get access!?

If people wanna do something they do it no matter how hard or easy it is for them to do.

I don't think a blame game is in order. We don't know the exact scenario of what happened. We have very little to go on.

Just saw the ME has said all the kids were 6 or 7 years old.

The actions of those brave teachers takes away any power that gunman was trying to get from targeting innocent kids. More people will remember the names of those who sacrificed themselves then the name of the coward who killed them.

There doesn't seem to be any mention of wounded in the news so he must have known exactly who he was going to target. It's just so heartbreaking to think there is a whole class of kids that won't get to grow up

I read that he had argued with 4 of the teachers the day before, 3 teachers he killed and 1 that wasn't working that day.
