Transvaginal ultrasound, i need details - don't be shy!

Our 1st FS appointmnet is on Monday and i have to have a transvaginal ultrasound scan. Iknow a lot of you have had them so could i have details please. I am having it at 13:15 and our consultation is 13:45 so I presume it doesnt take long?

How big is the thingy going in and how far up does it go?
I feel a right div asking this but in my mind i'm trying to see how it shows all my internal bits without getting up close and personal

Hi babe. I had one of these in december and Its honestly not as bad as it sounds, just a little uncomfortable. The "thing" lol is quite big but it doesnt go too far up you....just imagine a big willy

Assuming it's the same type of scan I've had a few times it really isn't anything to worry about. It kind of looks like a vibrator (same sort of shape and size) and shouldn't take more than 5 - minutes or so depending on what they're looking for.

The first time I had one she did it with no warning (I'd gone in for a normal ultrasound to look for scarring on my kidneys). Despite being shocked it really wasn't anything to worry about!!

You'll be absolutely fine!!!!!

Honestly babe its nothing at all...seems scary, but its nothing. They just move it around a bit inside of you and it does feel a little rough but its nothing....

I've always had them. Apparently my uterus is leaning towards my spine, so they can't see anything any other way. To me, it looks like a big fat pen.. it's really nothing, just little awkard.. The sonographers are so discreet, you'll have a sheet over your legs and they really try to make it as comfy as possible..

And can it see your tubes and overies as well as womb lining?

Yup. They'll be able to with enough detail to see if there's anything obvious stopping you from conceiving. There's nothing to it!!!!!!!

Hi hun,
Im having the same done next Thursday, mines at 8am and I have been told to drink lots of water upto an hour 1/2 before. I dont think I get a consultation afterwards though, they send a report to my doctor.

Sorry chick, that might be because I am having a Pelvis Transabdominal and Transvaginal. The full bladder must be for the TA. Have they just asked you to have the TV?

Mh, I was actually told to empty my bladder before having it. The first time wasnt bad because the doctor explained to me what she was doing as it happened. The second was sudden, no talking no nothing to the extent that if it had been my first time I would have been shocked that a doctor was pushing things into me!!!
But nothin to worry about!

OBe - mine is private and that's why i get the consultation after.

It's absolutely fine - it's more damaging to your ego than anything else

It's like this metal thing with a ball on the end and they put a condom on it and then away you go.... it kinda felt like they were trying to find my G spot when all it did was make me want to pee I'm a classy bird!

Very interesting though, she could see my ovary and tell exactly where in my cycle i was!

You having the HSG too or just the scan?

Id desribe it like a thin microphone and its covered in lube so it doesnt hurt

It really is nothing to worry about. As others have said, the sonographers try to make it as comfortable as possible by covering you up! I was always told to have an empty bladder as a full one gets in the way of the picture (it's the opposite with the normal ultrasound which needs a full bladder).

It's amazing what they can see - they've been able to identify which ovary is producing an egg, the thickness of the lining etc. Quite interesting if you can get beyond the fact you are legs akimbo
