Hi all
new to the forum but was hoping to hear if others have had similar problems and maybe have some answers. Hubby and I have been ttc since October last year. Still within the "normal" 1 year naturally trying year but eventually went to Gynae today cause my cycle is just getting more erratic by the month. Basically had been on birth control from early teens until Oct last year so I expected a couple of months of unpredictable cycle while my body sorts itself out. But since Oct,my cycles have varied almost every month. I have had a 21 day,a 34 day,28,27,29,etc and lately to crown it all,I have 4 days spotting and then on 5th day get awoken in middle of night with hectic period cramps, back ache, and the full glory of AF visiting. Sometimes she hangs around for another 5 days but last month only for 2. My migraines have also become more regular. My whole situation is further compromised by fact hat I might have scar tissue from various prev operations which could potentially cause fertility difficulties. Anyway, Gynae today did sonar and he saw multiple follicles on my ovaries and now he suspects PCOS. Got to go for the blood test on the 13th but I'm not so convinced...clear blue ovulation test indicated ovulation last month. I'm so confused! Waiting to see what ovulation test does this month...I don't have any other symptoms besides the erratic cycle duration and the bad cramps when AF does come but part of me hopes it is PCOS since it responds well to treatment! Any opinions?

Hello @Aphy first I want to say sorry for you now having suspected PCOS. I will share a little about my situation and just know there is hope. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 8 or 9 years ago when I was Not TTC. now that I am TTC it is a little difficult but not impossible. I was recommended to an endocrinologist after a year of trying naturally with no success. I was monitored without meds a full cycle to see if I O on my own. How weird I have plenty of Follies but didn't grow past 12mm. I did have positive O tests but no O I don't know how but in fact happened. I was told I am anovulatory ( you can search if you need most PCOS woman are) but with the help of meds such as Metformin, Clomid/femara it helps regulate a normal cycle making it all possible to get pregnant. any questions you have I am open to help. Its now 21 months of TTC for me so ive been through quite a lot.

Hey hun, we started trying Sep 2015 and by october i went to endo because i had hard time losing weight and i was getting acne. All these were bit new to me so i knew there was something wrong with my hormones.
Endo got my blood test, then ultrasound, then blood test again, he said that i have mild pcos at hormonal level but no cysts. He put me on Metformin and i started pcos diet. 3 months later i was still not pregnant but my hormones were regulating. He said hormones should be regulated completely in 2 months. But i didnt wanna wait anymore, so i asked him to give me clomid.

Took clomid one month and i conceived with that. I know pcos still makes my mc risk high but there is still hope for everyone. clomid works great for pcos ladies.

After your blood test, if you happen to hav pcos then join our pcos buddies thread, so many success stories there and great info. You are not alone! i wish u the best.

Thought I'd give you the other side of the story. I had a miscarriage in May 2012 and by Jan 2013 we still hadn't conceived again and my cycles didn't return to normal. I also had pain in my ovaries. So the Dr referred me for a scan to check for PCOS. The technician at the scan basically confirmed I had it and was saying I'd struggle to conceive again and stressed me out completely. However she was only a technician so I was referred to a consultant to discuss the results. I gave up on the idea of conceiving without help.
A few weeks later I told the consultant my story and explained before the miscarriage I'd been on the pill for 10 years. He looked at the scan and said my ovaries just looked liked someone who had been on the pill for a long time. Apparently it can cause ovaries to look the same as pcos. He explained as I didn't have any other symptoms it was unlikely I had it. And from what I told him he said it seemed likely we'd conceive naturally but arranged for us to come back in a few months if nothing happened.
It turned out I was 3 weeks pregnant sitting in that consultants room! I got my positive a week later and gave birth to my son in November!
I'm now pregnant again with my second (which was a bit of an oops moment with no trying this time!).

Hello! I just wanted to say you are definitely not alone if you end up having PCOS. Many women with PCOS can go on to have successful pregnancies, they just sometimes need a little help. I was dx with PCOS this past March. I was not ovulating at all. Now I am on Clomid which is working for ovulation induction. If you have a diagnosed issue that can prevent pregnancy there is no need to wait a full year before going to see a specialist. The one year rule is generally for women who are having regular cycles, ovulating on their own with no medical issues. Also another thing to keep in mind is that if you do have PCOS you can turn an OPK positive and not ovulate, it happened to me many times. I would recommend getting a BBT and start temping and charting next cycle to see if you are ovulating on your own.

PCOS can complicate things but it can also help provide answers and direct treatment. Many of us on BnB have PCOS and the stories of other women getting their BFPs keep me going! Feel free to PM me anytime!

Thanks so much everyone for your input and motivation,it really helps to hear success stories. I think every woman ttc goes through those emotional periods and I'm in one of those now so it's motivating to know others have gone through similar issues and overcome them. Good luck to everyone ttc! Thanks for the support!
