So I just got back from my first early ultrasound and there is definitely one baby measuring 5 weeks 5 days with a heartbeat (don't know how fast, she said it was too early to measure).
The baby measured 2 mm and was attached to a round circle (I think that is the yolk sac but I'm not sure of this). The weird part was that that round circle was attached to another round circle which was attached to my uterus. The ultrasound technician said it might be another sac or it might just be a part of my uterus. She said I will have to come back in a week or two to see if this is possibly identical twins!!!!!!
To say the least, my DH and I are freaking out.
What confuses me is if it is twins why are both sacs attached to each other. The sac with the baby was attached to the other sac and not the uterus. The technician said one baby was definitely healthy and didn't seem worried. I of course immediately thought of conjoined twins and asked and she said 100% no because if it is twins there are two sacs. It may also be my pregnancy started off as twins but one didn't grow.
So now I have to wait and worry until my next scan.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Any advice or help would be appreciated.

i have a friend who went for a scan at 8/9 weeks and they said there were 3 sacs but only one with a baby, so i think you can have empty sacs if one just didnt grow. do u have multiples in the family? good news the one looks healthy :)

No we have no twins in our family at all but I don't think identical twins are hereditary.
Here is the picture but you really can't tell. There was basically 2 circles and attached to the second circle was the baby (the little white spot).
I will basically be waiting until next friday to find out what is happening

hi, we had a scan at 7 weeks (pic attached) and we thought there were two babies, but it was the yolk sac, apparently it is still quite big at that stage. we had another scan yesterday (10 weeks) and the yolk sac was still there but alot small (or maybe looked smaller because baby was alot bigger! :)

Keep us posted, twins would be so cute xx

Hi. I went in at six weeks due to spotting and there were two sacs. It sounds different from yours though probably because I was carrying fraternal twins. It showed two separate sacs. One baby was measuring about a week behind and we ended up losing that baby. We just found out yesterday. Keep us updated and good luck!

Good luck, let us know how you get on. Im carrying fraternal twins, on my avatar pic one twin is 7 +4 and the other 7+ 5.. you should hopefully see more next week

this is just what my scan looked like at 5 + 5, i even posted a thread about it!! only i was in A&E so they didnt really tell me anything about it they just looked for themselves to make sure i didn't miscarry and the doctor said "cool two sacs" .. THEN i went to another scan .. the tech wasn't aloud to tell me anything, all she did was assure me there was a heart beat so i would not be in a constant state of worry -- and i go for my results at the doctors office this monday

I think whenever there are two sacs there is the potential for two babies. It doesn't mean that you'll end up with two babies though, just as the ultrasound tech said.

My scan at 6 weeks showed two gestational sacs, only one of which at a yolk sac. At 7 weeks, there were still two gestational sacs and now there were two yolk sacs. Long story short, we ended up eventually finding triplets in there!

I hope you get the result you hope for! :hugs:

All the best hun

And Jessa what a lovely story. Wishing you all the best too!

Sorry for your loss Claudia but congrats on one healthy baby! :hugs:
My story is quite different as there is only one gestational sac but there seemed to be two yolk sacs (side by side) but only one baby attached to the second sac.

I thought I read a thread about the same thing and was searching for it but could not find it! I am so happy you found me!
Were you about to see if your sacs were touching? The way mine looked as if there was one sac attached to my uterus and then another sac attached to that sac but not my uterus and then the little tiny baby with a heart beat. (You can kind of see in the picture I posted). The ultrasound technician said it could just be a part of my uterus but she didnt think so.
If it is twins I dont understand why the two yolk sacs where touching. Usually in ultrasounds I see they are on opposite sides of the gestational sac.
I also read online since seeing this there is something called a double bleb (one sac is the amnion and the other the yolk sac and this can only be seen at 5 + 5 and its very rare to catch it on an ultrasound). I am wondering if that is what maybe we saw too.
Please keep me up to date on your story and good luck!!!!!:hugs:

i know that is what mine were like too! it looked like two bubbles touching one another but only one touching the side of my uterus and i searched for ultrasound pictures like it but couldn't find any -- i will have to let you know if they say anything on monday at the doctors when i get my results! ultrasound tech wouldn't way anything!

ok so on firsts U/S they thought they saw 2 sacs .on 2nd ultrasound 4 days later there was a little something waaay below the baby which did not affect it ... assuming this is what caused the bleeding. said it was either a. a piece of uterine lining that came detached during implantation .. or b. there was 2 sacs but 1 never developped into anything.

Thanks for the update.. Glad to hear all went well!
I'll let you know how mine goes Friday!

yes do! because if there's a possibility mine was a second sac that didn't develop .. your could always be a second sac that is developing!
