Ultrasound 5w3d or 6w1d -- what to expect???

Hi ladies! So I ovulate late and so I am not exactly sure of my EDD. My friend worked in an OB office and she said that they will go my LMP until they can measure for "Age."

So here goes - I'm going for an early scan on Tuesday - at the time I will either be 5w3d (by O date) or 6w1d pregnant (by LMP). What can I expect to see?

I didn't have an early scan with DD and since I had a MC in Dec they want to get me in early to make sure it's in the right spot and that everything is going ok. My level for Thursday's blood draw was 725, Monday was 271, Friday before was 65 and Wednesday before that was 28. So the numbers are definitely rising and doubling accordingly.

Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Oh and will they do a normal US or vaginal?

Hi - I had one today and am somewhere between 5 & 6 weeks and they saw a heartbeat, it was a vaginal US.

I had an emergency scan at 6 weeks because of some spotting. We saw very little but with an internal scan we saw a little flicker on the screen that was apparently the heartbeat. I was told the baby was still very tiny though and was measuring somewhere between 5-6 weeks. So don't get your hopes too high but if you're lucky you will get to possibly see a heartbeat. I checked the US photo I have from DD's first scan and it was done around 7-8 weeks. So yeah I am completely clueless.

With my MC in December I had two USs at like 6 and 8 weeks and neither showed anything.

I had a scan yesterday at 5+4 and also saw the heartbeat but it's not uncommon to not see it until after 6 weeks.

If you know your ovulation date, use that. I've tried telling the docs I knew what day I ovulated and they just scratched their heads so I just counted backwards 14 days and told them that was the first day of my LMP.

At 6w1d, on u/s we only saw the gestational sac and yolk sac measuring 6w -- no baby. Came in again for u/s at 7w and saw the same as before, but with a tiny little fetal pole with a measurable heartbeat! Little bean was only measuring 6w3d. They say if your calculated due date from LMP is within 7 days from the u/s due date, they'll use the LMP one.

Also, they will use a vaginal u/s. Usually can only do trans-abdominal after 10-12 wks. Don't be alarmed if you don't see much. Even seeing a yolk sac is a REALLY good sign!! GL!

I had an early scan at 6 weeks due to ectopic last time, but we did not see anything apart from just the sac. So we went back at what should have been 8+4 and there was bean as large as life, they also put me at 9 weeks!!

So I was gutted when we saw nothing but try not to worry as its no necessarily a bad sign! Both scans were with an vaginal scan.

I had an early scan at 6+1 and we only saw a yolk sac and gestational sac, no baby and no heartbeat, when I went 8 days later there was a little blob with a heartbeat, but they did put me back four days so at my first scan I was only 5+4 and at the second I was 6+5

Oh good! Ok so we may or may not see something. Either way could be OK. I'm just hoping to see ANYTHING. Even a sac.

Yeah, it could go either way. I just had my scan at 6+1 to make sure baby was in the right place after previous ectopic. They tried abdominal and could only see a sac. They then went internal and found a baby with a heartbeat! They warned me prior that they might not see anything, so be prepared either way Hope it goes well for you

See in December with the MC they couldn't see anything. They presumed it was ectopic because of that. So I had to do methotrexate shots.

Given that history that is why I'm going in early and also why they are still doing bloodwork.

I'm anxious, excited and nervous all the same!

Wellllll today is the day. In just a few shorts hours (7 to be exact and I'm sure it will feel like an eternity!!!!!) I will see my bean for the first time!!

Numbers are still steadily rising so I'm praying I see something today. I'm not expecting much but OF COURSE I'm praying I see and hear it all hehehe

HI,,, I took my first TV ultrasound yesterday at 6 weeks and 3 days...we were able to see a gestational sac with embryo and yolk pole,and also heartbeat in the range of 100-140bpm,,, but if it is 5 weeks i am not sure if you can see heartbeat,, but you should be able to see the gestational sac.....

A gestational sac, but hit or miss on seeing a fetal pole if you do your pretty lucky. Good luck. I want pictures. :-D.

They will probably think I'm crazy but whatever!!

My Avatar picture is my U/S from 5 weeks 6 days...we *did* see a heartbeat BUT don't necessarily expect that it can be seen yet- we could just barely see/hear a heartbeat, but baby was so tiny that they couldn't stay on it long enough to get a good reading on it- I went back 2 weeks later, and the HB was so strong! But we couldn't tell that from the first one.
So, we saw the yolk sac and the baby looked like a little pea. If you're earlier, you may not even see that! Oh, but it is all so exciting, and don't worry, they gave me a picture even though there wasn't much at that point
