I feed Isobelle in the underarm 'rugby ball' position and was thinking ahead after comments that shes a long baby...what will happen as she gets older and her legs will be hitting the chairs/bed etc will i need to teach her the traditional across the body position as well for when shes a bit older?
How long can i feed like this i find it so much easier to latch this way

Thanks

I guess I used that position till about 2 months or so. I would switch between the football and the traditional.

You should be fine hun. Even in the regular cross cradle hold Hebe kicks and waggles her legs! :dohh:

I did "football hold" (that's what we call it here) until Edward was about 5 or 6 weeks. He was a very long baby and started kicking off the back of the chair and breaking the latch. We started doing the cross cradle or regular cradle and it still works very well for us.

We were laid on a blanket at the cricket on sunday feeding - Hebe was obviously facing me, tummy to tummy on our sides and she was trying to get her leg over me too....:dohh:

aww thats cute though lol

i could never do football hold, leyla was too long from the beginning, i couldnt sit back and do it, had to lean forward and then it just wasnt comfy

I have pillows behind me otherwise i wouldnt be able to either

I have started to swap to cross cradle half way through so i can make sure we get the latch right and will change over soon i think

Thanks for the advice
:hugs:

I definatly wasn't comfortable in the football hold either. It did make me lean forward but I couldn't figure out what else to do and having him nurse was more important (at that time) then my comfort.

I'm over that now ;) Now I lean back, get all comfee and *then* latch him. What a difference a few months make!
