We have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I was just wondering what treatment people started with first? Was clomid offered or did you go straight to ivf? If you had to pay for Ivf how much and where did you go? It's all so much to look into :(. I would really appreciate any advice you lovely ladies can give.

I think it really depends on yr situation and Dr. What kind of test have you done already for them to diagnose you as unexplained?

I was diagnosed unexplained with my gynecologist, and they did all the blood, hsg, lap, SA. After that I was referred to a clinic and from there because we had been trying for three years with no success they are trying femera to see if I can get more follicles and IUI. If that is unsuccessful we will be trying gonal-f as Femera isn't giving me multiples just faster ovulation and IUI. After that who knows....

Hi Han, we were also diagnosed as unexplained as all of our test results came back normal.
We started with clomid but if I had to do it again, I would have went directly to IVF based on my age (38) at time, now 40.

We did 2 IVF's and 4 IUI's with a clinic near our home in Brooklyn, when they failed, we went to Cornell in NYC. That is where we had success.

We spend over 30k altogether (not including meds, which was covered under insurance). If I had done my due diligence, I would have gone straight to Cornell in the beginning.

Good luck!

I went to a fertility specialist who diagnosed me as unexplained infertility. He did say my husband had male factor as well. He gave my husband some vitamins to improve sperm quality and ran a sperm analysis tht showed improvement. He told us to do 2 rounds of Clomid and then when those failed. He told us IVF was his only recommendation. We did two failed rounds and sought out a different physician. The new doctor told me I had stage 3 Endometrisois, and cysts on my right ovary, and a fibroid in my uterine wall. I had surgery to fix all of this, followed by two more IVF and two more FET. So five tries later, the 6th worked. We are pregnant. But we sold our house to afford all this. IVF is not covered by our insurance, but medication is. About 8k-10k each round, and meds are about $3000 each round. FET meds are cheaper for me. We have INSANE debt from our repeated tries and have spent about 70K for all these rounds. We are in the U.S. After all our failures we got smart and quit paying for each one, one at a time. We bought a bulk package for 20K were for 365 days we get as many tries as we can fit into the year. We still pay for the meds. What I feel really made this round work and all the others not, is this round I started Acupunture for infertility two months prior to my embryo transfer. I also bought the book, Boost your fertility by Marilyn Glenville from half-price books. I figured what do I have to loose? I changed my diet and personal products to all natural and organic products. Cut dairy, cut red meat, cut white food (rice, bread, potatoes) and limited sugar and salt. No soda, or cold foods (acupuncture requirement). I really believe this made all the difference for me (and I am not a hippy-dippy all natural kind of girl). But it works, for real!!! Look into it before spending all your money on IVF. I was pregnant within 2-3 months of doing these changes, but it says to give it 6 months. Hope it works for you!!

I'm 35 (going on 36 in May) and DH is 37 (going on 38 in July) and we've been TTCing since October 2013. We're also in the unexplained category:nope: Our RE recommended IUI with injectables since my hormones are normal and both tubes are wide open. She'll be refering us for IVF if we have 3 unsuccessful IUI cycles and in the waiting time, will continue with 3 more. We just had our 1st IUI and it failed so will be going in for IUI #2 now. Here in Denmark you get unlimited free IUIs and 3 free IVF tries so don't know anything about costs. We're currently only paying for the hormones.

I apparently have unexplained infertility. After several MC, I found that having an IUI with progesterone and aspirin has been successful. I am 9 weeks today.

Hi ladies. I just wanted to share some positive words with you all. Please please don't give up hope. My husband and I had been trying for almost 2 years with no luck and eventually diagnosed with Unexplained Infertilty. It's the hardest thing I've ever heard. There was NOTHING wrong with us but nothing was happening.
It took a lot for me to get on board with IUI, months of back and forth being against it.
The month I finally decided to give up everything (and move on to IUI in the next weeks) we ended up getting away for the weekend and conceiving! No meds, no shots .. nothing!
Both my doctors couldn't believe it. I had low progesterone early on and they were pushing the Clomid/Femara thinking it would help.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that it WILL happen. I know every month it drags you down seeing AF but I promise you girls that if you forget about everything it can and will happen!
Please don't give up hope.

Good luck ladies :flower: :hugs:

I have unexplained too. For me it's worth it to try 3 iuis. They around 1000 a piece. Before I start ivf. Which is 10000. But I am also only 27 so I have some time. If I was older might just go to ivf! Good luck. All hard decisions! Success rate for iui is around 30%. If you get a good amount of follicles and good sperm. Ivf is around 70%!

I have been told today we have unexplained infertility. I am 31 years old, my tubes are open, hormones are fine. I thought I had endo but I really don't. Hubby got an SA done as well. Doc suggested IUI, we get 6 IUI covered by insurance. But not IVF. I have so much hope on IUI I don't think I can think about IVF right now.

I've been told I've got this

Have to go for a hsg then try comid then ivf.

All tests so far came back clear

Like MnGmakes3 said, there is still hope. Who would have thought that a $3 bottle of baby aspirin would be my key to having a child? The baby aspirin did what IUIs and doctors could not. I am now 15 weeks and going strong.

My suggestion is to listen to all the tips you can find on this board and try them all.

Hi, I was diagnosed at 31 with unexplained. We started with clomid, did 5 rounds too many with injectables and trigger shot. We paid around 8,000 for IVF at the Cleveland Clinic. Good luck

:hi: yep me too, been TTC two yes zip had a couple of chemicals but nothing else!

I have rubbish womb lining that's the only thing but who knows  had every test known to man so has hubby, took us 12 mths with dd but conceived naturally! I'm about to start clomid and of April but will be looking at ivf after couple of cycles! I'm 34 35 in April feel like a ticking time bomb

Starting to get me down a little but hay ho gotta keep your chin up

Congrats !
I read a lot of success stories with baby aspirin. I want to give it a try next :D
