Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone in the FF section know how Earl, the gannet, is getting on as we don't come in here very much now. He's basically a fully fledged toddler, walking and talking which is scary lol.

Earl's progress on a month by month basis from newborn, should (I hope) give some hope and perspective to all of your who think that baby is over-eating etc. Earl was a massive eater and it's been one hell of a ride, but it's all settled down now so I thought this might be useful.

Newborn - Earl quickly settled into a 3-4hour eating patter and withing 1 month was having 4oz bottles. Weighed 9lb 6 at birth and didn't actually lose any weight at birth!

1 months- every week we added 1oz up to 7 weeks when he was readily drinking 6-7oz per bottle, every 2-3 hours!

2 months - sorted out our routine - I was giving him 6oz every 2.5 hours on the dot and he was taking 6-7 bottles a day!

3 months - pretty much the same. We were consistently taking 7oz each time - 42oz a day.

4 months - GROWTH SPURT!!! Major league growth spurt left us on 8x 7oz bottles a day (yep that's 56oz!). Every 2.5 hours on the money. We started weaning this month and his eating didn't go down for nearly 2 weeks! He put on 1lb a week and gained 1cm a week!

5 months - back down to the 40oz mark, having 8oz bottles now, 5 times a day! Routine is starting to come together really well and we were up to 2 meals a day, plus a BLW style lunchtime snack. We learned to sit up, roll and do all sorts of things with our hands!

6 months - 4x8oz bottles - woohoo, we were at a normal kind of routine and eating pattern, 3 meals a day and sleeping through the night!

7 months - 3-4 x 7oz bottles. Pretty much where he should be according to the HV  Oh and we have well and truly mastered the sippy cup, holding our own bottle and we are a BLW pro! (Still do spoon feeding as his appetite is huge!

8 months - the crawling month! Sleep gets disturbed, back to waking in the night, still on 3-4 7oz bottles a day but 2 of them are overnight.

9 months - Still waking and still on the 3-4 bottles but dropped down to 1x8oz and 2-3 6oz bottles. 3 meals a day plus 1-2 snacks. Started cruising

10 months - Dropped down to 3 definite bottles a day 1 x 8 and 2 x 6 (both overnight). Sleep is still disturbed but learning to walk. Eating more and more everyday and learning to feed himself and use a beaker

11 months (where we are today) - learned to walk so sleep still buggered but getting better as I decided to dilute the milk overnight. Stopped waking about a week ago so now on 2 x 7oz bottles (14oz a day) and on cows milk during the day.

At last weigh in Earl weighed 26lb! he is on the 90th + percentile for everything, and is walking unassisted about 50% of the time now! It's crackers.

So I thought that would give everyone some hope. Yes, Earl has drunk about twice the amount he 'should' have in his short life, but he's happy, healthy, and progressing at a rate of knots! I fed on demand for the first 4 months of his life and it's left him very able to tell me when he's hungry, which he does very frequently lol. He's in proportion, and eats pretty much anything to throw at him (apart from mashed potato and raw tomato! lol)

My advice, is believe in your instincts and theirs. If your child has a big apetite, go with it. They have to do a lot of growing, the most they will ever do in their lives. Earl is going to be tall like his Dad I reckon, so he's got to get enough nutrients into him to grow nearly 6 feet in the next 18 years! lol, this milk is just the start! lol

Hope that wasn't too long and I hope my waffling will be helpful.

A great post hun:thumbup: i hope it helps as it would have been lifesaver for me over a year ago. My now 17 month old drank and ate loads....i gave him wbat he needed but because of the constant 'big boy' comments doubted myself and also worried about the over feeding.
Knowing what i know now.... I did good and my son has turned out fab... Hes bigger than average for his age but also fit and healthy.

HV anf medical professionals dont know it all, especially your child... So go with your gut and have faith:hugs:
Xxx

Thanks hun, great post. When r u going to switch to cow milk? how r u planning to do it? I tried to offer Omar few sips but he threw up :( he takes it with his cereals but won't drink it.

Thanks all,

nmwb - Earl has been having milk as a drink for about 2 months as he loves it and as he was having 20oz of formula I thought it couldn't hurt. I introduced it with meals or snacks to begin with - I also tried it warmed slightly to start with as he's used to room temp drinks not cold from the fridge. He now drinks it cold and loves it with fruit and biscuits! lol

I am going to swap his night bottles over to cows milk in the next couple of weeks to month.

I would try it little and often and see how he gets on.:hugs:
