I have been ill since Friday with a lovely D & V bug, and despite my scrupulous hand washing, when my LO was off his milk today I knew he had caught it. He has been fine in himself, but was very sick this evening before bed  Poor little thing , I have been dreading the first time he gets a sickness bug. He was crying inbetween because he didn't know what was going on :( He was fine afterwards and had some more milk and went to bed.

My questions are- what happens if he starts refusing fluids altogether? Do I just keep offering sips and keep an eye on his wet nappies? Do I offer solids (he is 6 months this week and has been on purees for 2/3 weeks) or just stick to milk?

I was only sick once but had a bad tummy for about 3 days- I felt awful with it, is it going to hit him worse? Poor little thing :(

It is so worrying, I am going to get no sleep tonight

Im not sure hun, but I'd also try and get a little water down him too. I hope he picks up soon...x

my lo had this this weekend, i rang the doc and just said give hin fluids and not even milk really as it could cause him to be sick again.my lo has been really dehydrated so luckyily has guzzled lots of water, but if your lo is refusing just give them what they want, even if it is in drips and drabs. this is the 1st time my lo has ad a tummy bug and its been really horrible watching him suffer, hes had both sickness and lots of diarrhoea.
In terms of solids, lay of them until 12 hours has past since hes last been sick.

Hope he gets better soon hun xxxx

Thanks, OH gave him some sips of water before his milk. Hopefully he will keep it down. It is so scary  Hate seeing him poorly. It is hard to know whether to offer them milk or not, some things I read say to keep offering it, others don't. Argh, very stressful! xxx

oh i know ALL about bugs!
keep giving feeds, even if he refuses them continue to offer it after 20 mins half hour etc if he doesnt take any feed.
Be prepared for lots of nappy changing!

keep an eye on the soft spot and if diahreah gets bad offer diorilite.
My gp said diahreah can last up to 5-7 days!

it was the worst week of my life when Willow got the D&V (and didnt help that we got it too!)

xxxx

When Mika got this earlier this week the nurses told me to take him off of formula for about 6 hours (but she says they usually recommend 8 for older babies) and give him just pedialite (idk what that is called in the UK), at least an ounce or so ever few hours, even if we had to syringe feed it to him. They also said to watch his soft spot and the number of wet diapers to make sure he wasn't dehydrated.

Hope your LO gets better soon!

He is asleep now, what do I do throughout the night? Just let him sleep and offer him feeds when he wakes? He was last sick (only the once but lots and lots of it) at about 6.45ish. He hasn't had any diahorrea (yet-am preparing for that tomorrow as I had it bad) I am hating it already and it has only just started- doesn't help that I still feel pretty rough myself! xxxx I'm not very good with sickness bugs! (As you all can see...)

My LO has this at the minute. Our 1st bout of illness. It's horrible isn't it :( I took him to the NHS walk in today and doc said keep offering feeds and give him calpol!! Not sure what the Calpol will do as he doesn't have a temp. He's not weeing very much and his soft spot goes sunken at times :( I am offering water also. We were at a christening today and his nappy leaked down his leg, poor little thing.

Hope ur LO gets better soon x

It is really really awful! I was just waiting for it to happen, I knew he would catch it and I have been in a massive stew about it, and just as I start to feel better, he starts being poorly  I felt so helpless, my poor little man.

Hmmm sometimes I do wonder with GPs- the calpol thing is a bit odd as he has no temperature. How long has your LO had it for? Is he having much milk?

Hope he also gets better soon, I am so glad I have this board, OH doesn't understand what on earth I am flapping about! xx

Bless u, I know exactly how u feel especially when it's the 1st time u have to deal with ur LO being poorly. My LO normally takes 7ozs 5 times a day. He's probably taken 8 to 10 ozs all day. And a little water. He's had about 5 bowel movements today and one bout of sickness  It started yesterday when he refused a feed but he's had watery bowel movements for a few days now.

I also wonder about GP's sometimes. He made me feel like a right neurotic mother. But what else are we supposed to do? Esp when you're a learner when it comes to parenthood. They are supposed to be there to help and support us but I definately felt like he thought I was just being over anxious :growlmad: Forums like this really do keep u sane don't they :hugs:

Argh just went to check on him before bed and he had been sick again  Not loads but probably about half of his milk feed from earlier (which was only 3oz when he normally has 7oz). Then he woke up and started retching but only small amounts came out. I tried offering him water and he had about one sip and then refused. He was happy though and "talking" away, but he hasn't had a wet nappy for 4 hours which is unusual for him, mostly because he hasn't had a great deal all day.

What have you been doing with your LO at night? Just letting him wake up and offering fluids then?

I tried ringing NHS direct but they are "exceptionally busy and only dealing with urgent enquiries", so I suspect it would be a call back later jobby, at about 4.30am! Maybe next time he wakes I might try offering him a diluted feed. It is so hard to know what to do. My tummy is churning away in anxiety and as remnants of this bloody bug! Argh

They told us to wake Mika to give him fluids because the virus he has will make him sleepy and he won't wake when he needs to. We woke him every three hours to make sure he had at least an ounce or two of Pedialite.

Hope your LO is feeling better now!

Brandon has this bug too at the moment! He has had diarrhea since Thursday...Im waiting til half past 8 so I can phone the doctors and get an emergency appointment!

Its awful isnt it? Hope ur LOs feel better soon xxxxx

Its absolutely horrible! My poor LO, he kept down 3oz at 1am but then was sick this morning at 6am after having another 3oz. And now the poos have started too, and they smell awful! I am petrified of him getting dehydrated, I am trying to give him little sips of diarolyte/water/milk.

Have you found your LO's nappies have decreased? Am seeing the Doc at 10.40am. Can't wait for this to all be over

Hope your LO gets better soon xx

Hey Lozenge, how did the docs go hun?

Kai seems a little better today, taking 4 ozs at a time and some water. Docs said we have to ride it out but said he doesn't seem dehydrated :happydance:

He was sick at 1am last nite  and more horrid bowel movements today. He is weeing but not as much as usual :nope: x

Aaw that is good to hear. You must be feeling so relieved :)

My LO still a bit dodgy. His temperature is quite high and didn't seem to go down with calpol for very long, so am taking him back to the docs at 5.30. Sometimes he seems quite perky but it doesn't last long. He hasn't been sick since about 11am but his poos have become more watery :nope: He has done 7 in total today!

The doc was pretty crap really, said he seemed alert and to bring him back if he got worse, but he wasn't very helpful on the whole. NHS Direct were much better!

He has had a few wet nappies but nothing like what they usually are like.
I feel so sorry for him, I am hoping tonight and tomorrow may be better for him. So scary, I know how easy it is for them to end up in hospital with this sort of thing. xx
