Using Fabric Softener on Fleece Wraps/Longies?

I read somewhere that you can use fabric softener on fleece wraps or longies to increase the water resistance qualities of the fleece? Is this right?

I've read that a few times but never tried it. I do know that some makers of fleece covers say that you shouldn't use it (no reason given) so I just wash them as nappies just in case.

You can use it but the reason they say not to is that it decreases their breathability. I suppose that's the trade off for having them a bit more water resistant I've used it on occasion with our fleece and I can't really say I've noticed a big difference though

i use it on my fleece wraps - not noticed any difference in their waterproofness (never have leaks anyway) and her bum still looks peachy - however they're now softer and smell yummy
