My 5 and a half months old little boy (4 months corrected) has had fever since last wednesday. I have already been to GP twice who advised to give paracetamol and ibuprofen when baby has had the four doses of paracetamol in 24 hrs. The fever does go down once he has had the drug but it eventually comes back. it is his 5th day of fever today and I am wondering how long viral infections generally last in babies? He feeds fine, but seems very tired today and sounds husky when he cries.
I am also wondering how long i can give the paracetamol for? the box says to see dr after 3 days, my GP does not seem concerned about that.

Viruses seem to be the cause of everything now according to doctors!

Most viruses last about a week but some last longer. As the paracetamol is bringing it down means there probably isn't a lot the GP can do. I would probably keep an eye on him over the next few days and take him back again if he still runs a temperature. If he stops eating or his nappies get dry then take him ASAP as he could be getting dehydrated.

I hope your lo recovers soon.
